Green shirt3

The shirt is such a versatile item yet until now one I'd overlooked – mainly because finding one that's a good fit can be almost as time consuming as discovering the perfect jeans. When I saw this green Mary Portas shirt in the House of Fraser sale reduced from £95 to £25 I knew I'd found a bargain. Having bought a skirt from the range a while ago, which I absolutely love, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. Mary champions good quality clothes which are easy to wear and aimed at busy women who don't have time to spend faffing around putting outfits together (Mary claims to get dressed in the mornings in just ten minutes). The shirt is made of polyester but it feels almost as soft as silk. As it's a slouchy fit the sizing is generous making it ideal to wear loose over jeans. I've worn it here buttoned up with a bib-style necklace over the top and a simple black pencil skirt.  It's also available in turquoise, pink and orange so I might have to buy it in another colour too!

Theyskens Theory coat1

After a little break from the blog I was eager to show you one of my must-have items for winter – the maxi coat. This is probably the longest coat I've ever owned and at first I walked straight past it in TKMaxx, but on closer inspection it started to grow on me (especially when I saw how much it had been reduced – 90% off the RRP!)  It's by Theyskens' Theory, a label that really hadn't been on my radar, but clothes are like food – it's good to have a varied diet! Anyway I wasn't going to be put off by the rain and I managed to get a few snaps without getting a soaking.

A great winter coat is one of the few compensations for months of horrible weather so we might as well treat ourselves right? What type of coat have you got your eye on for the new season?

Wing dress

I've been showing you some of my amazing bargains in recent posts and this dress is another one of those sale treasures. I found it on the sale rail in Marks and Spencer with no price on the tag, so just like with the yellow lace dress I got a nice surprise when I queried it – £5! I did intend to save it for a holiday but as it was really hot at the weekend I decided to wear it to go for lunch with the family. I really love the way the sleeves look like butterfly wings when I spread my arms out. With its soft stretchy and non-crease material it will be guaranteed a place in my suitcase on my next beach holiday as it will work as a cover-up during the day and I can dress it up with jewellery and wedge heels for the evening.  Perfect! Now where's my passport?…..

Clements Ribeiro dress

At this time of year the temperature can fluctuate wildly during the course of the day so it's sometimes difficult to know what to wear for work. Mornings and evenings can feel quite chilly, even on a sunny day, but stepping out at lunch time can leave you a bit hot and bothered. This Clements Ribeiro silk dress is perfect for keeping cool while being structured enough to look businesslike. The jacket, which is made from a stretch jersey material,  is a useful cover up for when the temperature drops, and doesn't crease so can be folded up and tucked away in a bag.

Yigal azrouel skirt1

I'm always on the look out for classic pieces with an unusual feature,  such as this Yigal Azrouel skirt with the cutout sections on the sides.  I bought it from the Outnet in a pop up sale, which are a perfect opportunity to pick up a designer bargain. I kept the outfit simple with a black top from H&M available here that has a sheer spotted material on the shoulders and sleeves.

The leather bag is an old one by Jasper Conran for Debenhams and the shoes are from M&S.

Have you picked up any quirky or unusual pieces in the sales?
