Strictly Come Dancing may be over for another year but if you’re already missing the showstopping outfits how about introducing a little festive sparkle into your wardrobe just in time for the party season? Think sequins, glitter and tassels…and not just for evening…you can work a little embellishment into your daytime outfit without looking over the top. One of the easiest ways to sparkle your way through Christmas Day without getting too dressed up is to wear a sequin jacket – you can throw it on over a plain top paired with jeans for a festive and comfortable look.

I’ve had this sequin jacket from Next in my wardrobe for years, unworn and with the tags still attached. It’s so easy to forget about items of clothing when you have every coat hanger layered to the max. The material is stretchy so it’s really comfortable to wear and the sequins aren’t too scratchy (one thing that can put me off wearing sequins). Boyfriend jeans keep the look casual, while the court shoes add a feminine touch. I found the sparkly ring in a charity shop…like a magpie I was drawn to it! It’s like my very own personal bauble!

Of course, if you’re going to hit the dance floor you need fabulous shoes that won’t leave you limping by the end of the night. JD Williams has put together a guide to choosing the perfect party footwear…whether you’re doing an energetic jive, graceful waltz or saucy salsa, you’ll find plenty of tips here. You can also find advice on how to dress like the stars of other TV shows, including Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife, as well as a range of party wear guaranteed to wow on the dance floor!

What do you plan to wear on Christmas Day? Will you be dressing up or keeping it casual? Whatever you’re doing I wish you a very Merry Christmas!

Apricot poppy print skirt and black top

Well hello! I’m back after almost a month…and the blog has had a major revamp! Going self-hosted had been on my “to do” list for ages, but I’ve finally bitten the bullet and done it. Of course there were a few hiccups along the way… mainly having to put all my images back into every single blog post because they couldn’t be migrated. So far I’ve only gone back a few months but I didn’t want to delay the new look going live any longer! I’ve been excited to show you this outfit from Apricot for weeks. I have quite a thing for midi skirts at the moment and when I saw this beautiful poppy print skirt on Apricot’s website I added it to my bag immediately. It’s a real bargain at only £29. With such a bold print I wanted to keep the top simple so I opted for a black turtle neck blouse (also from Apricot) and black bag and shoes. Even though the weather isn’t really warm enough for bare legs now (we took these photos a few weeks ago) I’ll still be able to wear this skirt with tights and ankle boots through Winter…and of course I look forward to pairing it with sandals sometime next year!
