London Calling Chicwish midi skirt Miss KG red shoes

The iconic red phone box is so quintessentially British…but I have a confession to make…I’m actually writing this in France. A Summer holiday at my Dad’s in Brittany is becoming a tradition, and this year (for a change) we have been very lucky with the weather. I am looking forward to a weekend in London when I get back though. I don’t get many opportunities to visit the capital for leisure so I like to make the most of it when I’m there. The plan is to visit the Tower of London, and maybe do a little shopping if I’m allowed!

The bold print calls for (no pun intended) a plain top, but as the neckline of this one is high I added a red beaded bib necklace.

Anyway, back to today’s outfit. I bought this midi skirt a few months ago from Chicwish, and since then I’ve seen it on quite a few other bloggers, as well as Lorraine Kelly, but I love it so I don’t care. That is the risk you run with something this distinctive. The bold print calls for (no pun intended) a plain top, but as the neckline of this one is high I added a red beaded bib necklace. A simple white, black and red colour scheme is one of my favourites and works well with this skirt. However, if you’re feeling brave I imagine a brightly coloured top would be an interesting alternative. Yellow or emerald green maybe? Food for thought next time I wear it!

What would you wear it with? Let me know in the comments!

Karina Megan dress Miss KG red crossover shoes

A few weeks ago I was sitting at my desk at work, trying not to fall asleep after a very early start, when an email popped up from Dawn Lucy of Fashion Should Be Fun saying I’d won a Karina dress! Before I had time to open the email my laptop died – maybe it got over excited with the good news! I had to plug it in and wait for it to boot up before I could read the email properly, but it was worth the wait. I’d completely forgotten that I’d entered the giveaway so it was a lovely surprise. Then the difficult part began…choosing one of the many gorgeous dresses at Karina. I have to admit to spending absolutely ages browsing the different styles and pattern options, and as I hadn’t tried anything from the brand before I was unsure of the fit. However, I finally whittled it down to this beautiful red and white spot dress, and it arrived remarkably quickly…all the way from the USA!

The dresses are perfect for travelling because they are very lightweight and don’t crease.

I was delighted with the super flattering stretchy fabric. The sizing system is very simple, ranging from XS to XXL. A S/M (which is what I ordered) will fit a U.S dress size 6-10 or U.K 10-14. The dresses are perfect for travelling because they are very lightweight and don’t crease. They are also very easy to care for as they are machine washable, drip dry and never need ironing! I styled mine with simple silver and pearl jewellery, retro style sunglasses, red shoes and a white bag I bought on eBay.

If you have a look at the Karina website you’ll see a gallery of happy customers wearing their dresses, and I bet you’ll recognise a few familiar faces from the blogging community too. Check out Dawn Lucy looking gorgeous in the blue and white spot Nora dress on her blog.

Brown and Khaki M&S Per Una Speziale jacket James Perse silk top

I bet I’m not the only woman who has a wardrobe fit to burst yet still opens it and struggles to pick an outfit, right? For work I tend to have a few outfits on rotation, even though there’s no dress code and I can wear what I like. But it’s easy to get into a rut and sometimes it feels like my work outfit choices are gradually diminishing simply because things get buried in drawers or hidden under heaving hangers. So every now and then I like to take a load of things out and remind myself of what I have, and try to get more wear out of it. A good place to start was this jacket which I bought on eBay. It has a mix of browns, blue, teal and cream so it’s very versatile. It’s also a good quality piece as it’s from the M&S Per Una Speziale range.

I was going to wear a teal top underneath but the only one I have is very frilly and it looked too fussy, so I chose a simple khaki silk top instead. Brown and khaki is not a colour combination I’m usually drawn to: blues and reds make up a significant proportion of my wardrobe, but these Asos trousers have become a work wardrobe staple as they’re super comfortable and don’t crease too much.

I don’t often wear a long necklace but I tried this one I’d bought years ago (but never worn) and to my surprise I really liked it.

I’m a big fan of a statement necklace but this top calls for something more understated. I don’t often wear a long necklace but I tried this one I’d bought years ago (but never worn) and to my surprise I really liked it. Inspired to do a bit more digging in the back of the wardrobe for forgotten treasures, I pulled out a pair of suede teal sandals with a yellow butterfly on – pretty but not all that comfortable! I bought the tan Ri2k bag on eBay too – I had it in black and used it so much that it started falling to bits! Now I like to rotate my handbags…I just have to remember to move all my essentials over too and not leave my purse or phone at home!

Do you have so much that you forget what you’ve got in the wardrobe or do you re-evaluate and have a purge every so often? I’d love to hear any tips you have for staying organised…let me know in the comments!

Shades of Blue With a Pop of Red Zara navy jacket Gap jeans HM sheer spot top

It was my daughter’s birthday at the weekend so on Saturday we had a party at the bowling alley for her and some school friends (kids with heavy bowling balls…what could possibly go wrong?) which was almost as much fun for the adults as we got a game in too! After I finished work on Sunday morning we went out for a family lunch at a nearby pub that serves the most wonderful food. Eating out requires comfort and a degree of smartness, so choosing what to wear wasn’t too difficult. Jeans, jacket and flat shoes is my go-to casual outfit combination and this navy Zara blazer has proved to be a wardrobe hero: I’ve worn it so many times.  It’s one of those items that I want to last forever.

Navy works well with so many colours but this time I decided to wear shades of blue with a pop of red.

Navy works well with so many colours but this time I decided to wear shades of blue with a pop of red. I love the contrast of cobalt blue and bright red. I’ve had the top for years – it has sheer sleeves so it’s ideal for layering under a jacket…I’m really glad I bought it in black too. The only new part of this outfit is the pale blue loafers which I bought from M&S. Even though a beautiful pair of heels can still make my heart flutter I have to be sensible and  think of the comfort factor! Heels are now reserved for occasions that don’t require much walking.

Do you have an outfit combination that you go back to over and over? Let me know in the comments or drop me a line on TwitterInstagram or Facebook!
