SheIn Wishlist skirts

If you’re looking to update your wardrobe without breaking the bank then SheIn is bound to have something to fit both your style and your budget. The choice is phenomenal…I could (and often do) spend hours browsing the website. A way to really make an impact is with a statement skirt. I love a flared midi skirt: elegant and flattering, they define the waistline creating an hourglass silhouette and show off your shoes perfectly! I’ve picked my favourites from the SheIn website.

Floral print satin bombers are everywhere at the moment…Wear one with a pleated midi skirt and trainers for a casual chic outfit.

An easy way of pepping up a plain outfit is with a jacket. A classic blazer can really  pull an outfit together, whether it’s a classic jeans and T-shirt combination for off-duty chic, or paired with tailored trousers for the office. You’ll get plenty of mileage from a tweed, military or tuxedo-style jacket. For a more casual option the bomber is both practical and on trend right now. Floral print satin bombers are everywhere at the moment.  Both casual and feminine, they are the perfect Autumn wardrobe update. Wear one with a pleated midi skirt and trainers for a casual chic outfit.

I’m really tempted to order the leopard print biker jacket…animal print never goes out of fashion! You can see me wearing the navy and white striped jacket here.

Ruffles, bell sleeves and appliqué tops are also big trends this season. I love the gingham top with ruffled sleeves, and the lips shirt is a funky twist on the classic white shirt.

When ordering from SheIn it’s worth checking the size chart – I usually have to go up a size. You can get 40% off your first order of over $55 US, and free shipping on orders over $99.

RomweYellow Floral Print Skirt Jane Norman top

On the eve of the Autumn Equinox it’s sadly time to bid farewell to Summer. I say sadly because it’s my favourite time of year. Even if the weather is disappointing at least we have the light well into the evenings, which makes taking blog photos so much easier! I decided to make the most of the late Summer/early Autumn sunshine by wearing yellow. A lot of yellow. In fact I could have worn even more if I’d chosen my bright yellow bag but I thought that’d be overkill. When I first got this yellow floral print skirt I wanted to wear it with an emerald green top to pick up on the green in the centre of the yellow poppies. I trawled the internet but despite my best efforts I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for.

The skirt is very flared so it needs to be paired with a fitted top to get the proportions right.

The skirt is very flared so it needs to be paired with a fitted top to get the proportions right. I have a black top that is the perfect style and fit for this skirt – a snug-fitting vest with a deep V neckline –  but I just felt that black was a bit heavy. I wanted something more colourful. Eventually I found this dark yellow Jane Norman top at House of Fraser, which is a pretty good colour match for the flowers. I still managed to work a few specks of emerald green in with the ring and bracelet, which I bought around 25 years ago! I just love these yellow patent shoes with the jewelled ankle strap. The pointed toe is perfect for a flared midi skirt, and they are quite comfortable too!

Navy and White Striped Jacket With Red Accents

You may have already noticed that I’m a huge fan of stripes, so adding a navy and white striped jacket to my wardrobe was long overdue. Navy, white and red is one of my favourite colour combinations; it’s classic and never goes out of fashion…just like Coco Chanel on my t-shirt! With the navy trousers, white top and navy and white striped jacket with red accents I could almost enlist in the Marine Nationale. I’m not sure the heels would be allowed though!

I find light layers are the way to go this time of year when the temperature can fluctuate rapidly.

The collarless open style and three-quarter length sleeves of the jacket give it a casual twist, plus it’s a lightweight fabric which makes it a great transitional piece. I find light layers are the way to go this time of year when the temperature can fluctuate rapidly. Factor in office air con and sitting in a hot car on the commute, and you can go from chilly to sweltering hot in a heartbeat!

What I like most about this colour combination is that you can play around with the proportions; I could have worn my red trousers with navy shoes and bag. Wide leg pants paired with white tennis shoes creates an effortlessly chic casual look, and would look great topped off with this jacket. If I was brave enough I could wear white jeans, but I’m too much of a muck magnet for that option! Classic navy and white stripes present so many options, it’s no wonder they’re always in style.

Are you a fan of stripes too? Let me know your favourite way to wear them in the comments or tweet me @thestylesplash

Irresistible Me Diamond Hair Styler

We all love that “just left the salon” look when we have our hair done don’t we? When I have my hair cut my hairdresser always straightens my hair to perfection, leaving it silky smooth and shiny. Despite my best efforts I’d never been able to achieve the same results…until I tried the Irresistible Me Diamond Hair Styler. The flat iron is so easy to use and heats up incredibly quickly – 230C in under 15 seconds! Irresistible Me is a US company so the straighteners have an American plug, but I bought an adapter for less than £5 from Argos and it works perfectly!

It’s dual voltage and changes automatically depending on where you are in the world

It’s dual voltage and changes automatically depending on where you are in the world. The digital temperature display also changes between Celsius and Fahrenheit depending on the supplied voltage. The design is sleek and stylish (red just happens to be my favourite colour!) and it’s very lightweight, so it’s ideal for taking on your travels.

The buttons are on the inside so you don’t accidentally change the temperature or turn it off when using it. You can adjust the heat to suit according to your hair type. The extra long 360° cord swivels around so it won’t get twisted and tangled as you move. It shuts down automatically in 30 minutes and comes in a beautifully designed box with magnetic closing that you can use to store it in.

To be honest, I’m not well-practised when it comes to using straighteners, mainly because when I tried in the past it was with cheap ones that just dried my hair without actually straightening it. With the first sweep of the Diamond flat iron I knew immediately that my technique wasn’t to blame – I just hadn’t been using the right tool.

I transformed my hair from fluffy to straight and sleek in around five minutes.

The 1” floating plate self-adjusts, eliminating any pressure points so that the flat iron can work through your hair smoothly without pulling. I transformed my hair from fluffy to straight and sleek in around five minutes. The tourmaline-infused ceramic floating plates, which are coated with crushed diamonds, produce infra-red heat that’s less damaging to hair than regular heat. The diamond and tourmaline technology protects hair, helping to retain all the natural hair oils, colour and moisture. The styling will last longer against air humidity and everyday stress.

I first used the straighteners the day before a very early flight to Madrid (post on that trip to come soon) so I wanted my hair to still look smooth when I got up in the middle of the night. To my amazement it stayed shiny and straight all the next day, even after sleeping on the plane and spending a day at an amusement park in incredible heat. I went out to dinner that evening without having to wash my hair…more time for eating and drinking!

I am so happy with the Irresistible Me Diamond Hair Styler and don’t know how I managed without it now! What are your favourite hair styling tools? Let me know in the comments or tweet me @thestylesplash 🙂

I was gifted the Diamond Hair Styler in exchange for a review. All my opinions are completely honest and unbiased.

Latest in Beauty Glamour Summer Edit box

Up until recently I’ve been resisting buying any more beauty boxes because the bathroom cabinet was overflowing with various lotions and potions, but the Latest in Beauty Glamour Summer Edit was too good to pass up. Costing £20 for products worth £104, the box was incredibly good value for money and full of items I was sure I’d use. With a few trips to warmer climes planned the Ladival Sun Protection Spray SPF 30 and St Tropez Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mist made the box worth buying.

The Ladival SPF 30 150ml (full size) costs £13.50 at Boots.* The water resistant spray protects against UVA and UVB rays, as well as Infrared-A rays, claiming to provide four times more protection compared to standard UVA/UVB sun protection products.  Ladival lotions and sprays are available in SPF 15, 30, 50 and 50+, as well as a kids’ range, and all are water resistant. They are free from preservatives, colourants, perfume and parabens so it’s suitable for sensitive skin. I’ve used it quite a lot over the Summer, and while it doesn’t have that “holiday smell” that a lot of sun creams have, it was easy to apply and absorbed easily. I used it in temperatures ranging from the low 20s to high 30s, although I do stay in the shade when possible, wear a hat and apply SPF 50 to my face and décolletage. It’s not expensive, but on the other hand you can find decent sun creams for less, so I’m not sure if I’d buy it in future.

To achieve a tan without the sun damage I usually fake it before going on holiday. Occasionally I have a spray tan at a salon, but more often than not I apply one myself at home. The St Tropez Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mist is really easy to apply thanks to the spray can. It is a bit messy so I’d advise doing it in the shower or over the bath. I found that I still needed to blend well with a tan mitt but it did dry streak-free and developed into a lovely bronze hue, not at all orangey. It seems to be sold out at quite a few retailers, suggesting it’s very popular, but I’ve found it in stock at Superdrug for £20.99 for 200ml.*

The Aurelia Probiotic Skincare range is free from a whole host of nasties, including parabens and mineral oils.

If you’ve read some of my previous beauty posts you’ll probably know that I’m a huge fan of Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, so any new cleanser I try has a lot to live up to. Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Miracle Cleanser has a very similar formula to the Cleanse and Polish and shares the same cruelty-free, natural ethos. The creamy cleanser is applied to dry skin, massaged in and removed with the bamboo muslin cloth which comes with it. Camomile, Bergamot, Rosemary and Eucalyptus essential oils soothe and cleanse the skin, while botanicals Hibiscus, Baobab, Mongongo oil and Kigelia Africana nourish and firm the skin. The Aurelia Probiotic Skincare range is free from a whole host of nasties, including parabens and mineral oils. I took the 30ml tube on holiday with me and my skin loved it. In fact I was so impressed with it that I added another one to a “build your own” box from Latest in Beauty (more on that in another post). I could happily use the Aurelia Miracle Cleanser and Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish alongside one another as they are very much alike, although the C&P is better value for money.

I’m not usually a fan of matte lipstick as they can be drying but I really like the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor. The smooth, velvety gel formula is intensely pigmented and has brilliant staying power. The shade supplied was Devotion – a deep pink that would suit all skin tones. I’ve been carrying it around in my handbag for weeks and find it easy for quick touch ups during the day. It’s available in seven shades.

The only other product I’ve got around to using is the Nuxe Prodigieux Shower Oil. Fragranced with sweet almond, vanilla and orange blossom it leaves skin delicately scented and with a hint of gold shimmer. You can find it at M&S in the UK for £10 for a 200ml tube.*

I was really intrigued by the Grounded Coffee Scrub as I’d been planning to make my own scrub from discarded coffee grounds. I’ve read loads of blog posts on how to make your own scrub with coffee, sugar and oil but never actually got further than writing down the instructions. The caffeine is meant to help reduce the appearance of cellulite so it’s got to be worth a go right?  The 30g sachet of the chocolate orange variety I received has the most wonderful smell and I was all ready to try it when I read that you’re meant to leave it on for 10 minutes. Well as you can imagine, it could get very messy waiting around covered in coffee grounds so that one will have to wait for when I’ve got time to stand in the bathroom for ten minutes while it works its magic!

Described as an alternative to dry shampoo, this body-building spray uses patented polymers to absorb oil at the roots.

When it comes to styling my hair I spend a considerable amount of time trying to achieve a smooth, frizz-free finish. But occasionally I like to pump up the volume and go for a more bouncy, natural look – even more so now I’ve had a few inches cut off. Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray is an invisible dry spray that builds volume and adds texture. Described as an alternative to dry shampoo, this body-building spray uses patented polymers to absorb oil at the roots. This versatile styling spray can also be used on clean hair to add lift at the roots, texture and volume without any powdery white residue. The paraben-free formula claims to protect colour with a multi-layered UV protection system and leaves hair smelling beautiful with Oribe’s signature scent. I’ve yet to try this spray out properly yet, but I do love the smell. A handy product to keep in your desk drawer for those evenings out straight after work.

The other product in the box I haven’t used yet is the Wow Luxury Face Mask. Described as a natural alternative to injectables, the aqua gel mask has been created with the newly developed Transdermal Cosmetics Delivery technology. It’s activated by skin temperature to allow the anti-aging ingredients to reach the deeper layers of the skin. Enriched with peptides and vegetable cell extract, it claims to deliver intense hydration, visibly reduce pore sizes, wrinkles and inhibit muscle contraction. It’s recommended that you leave the mask on for 20-40 minutes (the longer the better) and while improvements will be most noticeable for the following 24 hours, the effects can be felt for up to seven days. Sounds promising…I’ll let you know how I get on with it!
