I’ve been feeling a few pangs of guilt lately about the amount of clothes in my wardrobe that are still unworn with the tags attached. The time has come to decide if I can make them work for me or if it’s time to let them go. One such item is this J by Jasper Conran mustard jersey dress. When I bought it I loved the colour, the draping at the front and the length; just below the knee is my preferred length in a dress. But when I tried it on at home I wasn’t sure about the high neckline and cap sleeves, which tend to make my top half look square.

As a result it’s been in the wardrobe for several years, looking great on the hanger but taking up much needed space. I decided to give it one last chance and to my surprise I quite liked it. It’s a bit clingy but it’s double layered so it’s not see-through.

Usually I like a bit of contrast in an outfit but I went with a neutral-coloured shoe for a leg-lengthening effect

Usually I like a bit of contrast in an outfit but I went with a neutral-coloured shoe for a leg-lengthening effect. Again, with the handbag I considered a dark colour; mustard works really well with cobalt, aubergine and deep red. But I liked how the gold chain strap on my bag tied in with the gold sunglasses and jewellery. This J by Jasper Conran mustard dress and Angel Jackson bag are pretty much a perfect colour match. However, the darker shade in the snake print provides enough contrast to prevent it looking too uniform. Maybe I’ll try a bold, contrasting colour next time. I could style it with tights and boots for the colder weather. I could also layer a long cardigan or duster jacket over it. So it looks like I’ll be keeping the dress after all!

Do you have clothes hanging in the wardrobe with the tags still attached? Surely I can’t be the only one 😉

  13. Come rummage through my wardrobe Emma and you’ll definitely find clothes with the tags still on! Gulp! Sometimes the gap between shop and home is wide and garments get left hanging in the wardrobe but I’m so pleased you took this out for a spin to see if it would work. Great colour on you and I love the bag with it.

I really want your ring. It’s fabulous!

Thanks Jacqueline! Glad I’m not the only one guilty of buying things and leaving them unworn in the wardrobe! I got the ring from the Outnet a few years ago – I’ve been obsessed with big, bold rings since childhood 🙂
