Black Rose Print Dress at the Titanic Hotel Liverpool

Last week we went to see a Bob Dylan concert in Liverpool and decided to make the most of it by staying overnight. Rather than book one of the big hotel chains we chose the modern and luxurious Titanic Hotel in the Stanley Dock complex. We were not disappointed. The superior room was very spacious with a high ceiling and full length window that was perfect for outfit shots.

If you’re unsure about pattern mixing this dress is a great way to dip your toe in the water as the work is done for you.

Wearing this black rose print dress at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool seemed appropriate, given that Rose was the main character in the film about the ill-fated ship. The mix of modern and traditional surroundings is reflected in the dress, with the classic floral print used in a modern cut. If you’re unsure about pattern mixing this dress is a great way to dip your toe in the water as the work is done for you.

The assymetric crossover style with the different prints was the thing that really drew me to this dress. I also love the high neckline with the cut out section at the back. It manages to be sexy without flashing the flesh. I considered pairing it with blush pink shoes, but decided on the black cage sandals to add to the air of mystery that pervades the dark and moody corridors of the hotel.

Rum and tobacco imported from exotic locations were stored here in the great brick buildings…

The Titanic Hotel is located in what was the North Warehouse, part of which was damaged in a World War II air raid. The area is undergoing redevelopment, with apartments, bars and shops planned to breathe new life into this historic location. Stanley Dock is one of the six sites in Liverpool making up its UNESCO World Heritage Maritime Mercantile City listing. Rum and tobacco imported from exotic locations were stored here in the great brick buildings while Liverpool hummed with emigrants from all over Europe preparing to set sail for the New World. It quickly became the Second City of the Empire, and trading through its docks and canals was key to its prosperity.

Despite living within easy reach of the city it was only my second visit to Liverpool

The hotel is a 20 minute walk to Albert Dock so we took a stroll in the sunshine on both the day we arrived and the day after the concert. Sitting by the dock sipping prosecco was a real treat. Despite living within easy reach of the city it was only my second visit to Liverpool; the previous time was almost two years ago when I went to the NW Bloggers meet up. This recent trip has certainly whetted my appetite – I’ve yet to set foot in Liverpool One shopping centre! Forgoing the retail therapy (I was with my husband after all) we paid a brief visit to the Tate. There’s no admission fee but a donation of £4 is recommended, which is fantastic value.

One of the lambananas located at Pier Head outside the Museum of Liverpool features some of the city’s bands.  The original superlambanana was designed by Japanese artist Taro Chiezo with the city specifically in mind, as both the banana and lamb were once common cargo in Liverpool’s bustling docks.

It had been more than 20 years since I last saw Bob Dylan in concert so it was a trip down memory lane.

In case you were wondering how the Bob Dylan gig was, all I can say is I recognised two songs (Don’t Think Twice and Tangled Up in Blues) but I couldn’t see much. We were towards the back of the Echo Arena and there were no screens. Photography was strictly prohibited – anyone caught trying to take a sneaky snap on a phone (yes husband, I’m looking at you!) was given a reprimand.

I’m glad I went but to be honest it’s not really my type of music (I’m a rock chick through and through). It had been more than 20 years since I last saw Bob Dylan in concert (and I really did see him that time because it was in a much smaller venue) so it was a trip down memory lane. Oh, and it was lovely to stay in such a fabulous hotel. Liverpool, I’ll be back!

So many to choose from Laurie! Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright, Tangled Up in Blues and A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall would be in my top five. I’ve been listenening to some of his newer stuff on YouTube and quite like it, but the older ones will always be my faves. How about you! What are your favourites?

OMG Emma such a stunning dress. I love the unique wrap of the skirt and that it mixes prints. The rose print part is so beautiful. You styled it in such a simple sophisticated way, too.

Your shoes are hot! too. The hotel looks so stylsih too and spacious. I saw Dylan many years ago too and recognized some of the tunes, but I like alot of the older classic stuff.

Thank you Jess 🙂 I much prefer Bob Dylan’s older music, I like the simplicity of just him, guitar and harmonica. Most of the material he performed this time was blues/country style, which surprisingly my husband really liked!
