Checked Coat and Wide Brim Hat for a Walk in the Forest + Link Up

Another busy week has just flown by and already it’s the last day of October! Last week was half term and my husband’s 50th birthday. For the last few years we’ve been abroad for October half term but my husband couldn’t get the time off work this year so we celebrated his half century with a meal out at our favourite pub.

It’s easy to feel a bit hemmed in when the nights start drawing in so we made the most of the Autumn sunshine by going for a walk. Isobel wanted to go for a bike ride so we drove up to Delamere Forest for some fresh air and exercise.

Although it was sunny there was a chill in the air, but wearing this checked coat and wide brim hat for a walk in the forest turned out to be the perfect combination.

In my previous post I mentioned how I’d been packing away the Summer clothes and rediscovering my Winter wardrobe. As well as those leopard print boots I also unearthed this checked coat which I bought on eBay a couple of years ago. Check, plaid and houndstooth is very on trend this season so I was very happy when I remembered I’d got this coat. Sometimes you just need to shop your closet!  Although it was sunny there was a chill in the air, but wearing this checked coat and wide brim hat for a walk in the forest turned out to be the perfect combination.

I’m a big believer in using hats to balance the proportions of an outfit.

Over the last couple of years I’ve become a big fan of hats. For me they serve several purposes: they stop my hair blowing in my eyes, they keep my head warm and the sun off my eyes, and of course they look incredibly stylish. I’m a big believer in using hats to balance the proportions of an outfit. I have fedoras and wide brim floppy hats in a variety of colours so I’ve usually got one to match whatever outfit I’m wearing. In this instance I matched my hat to the burgundy trim and buttons on the coat. The underside of the coat collar is burgundy velvet – I love details like that. My Paul Costelloe bag completed the look.

My feet are giving me more and more problems lately so wearing shoes like FitFlops that have adequate arch support is essential.

A walk in the forest requires sturdy footwear and there’s nothing more comfortable than FitFlops. I live in the sandals over the Summer so I was overjoyed to find these boots on sale for just £15 a couple of years ago. They have a fleece lining which keeps my feet warm even in the coldest weather, and they are comfortable enough to run in. My feet are giving me more and more problems lately so wearing shoes like fitFlops that have adequate arch support is essential.

The back of the coat has a lovely ruffle design. It does add volume to my lower half but I’m willing to make that sacrifice for an unusual feature.

Finally, I had to show you my fantastic fox jumper! I’ve been desperately trying to get my hands on a fox sweater for ages and a few weeks ago I found this one on eBay. This outfit features four eBay bargains: coat, hat, jumper and bag. I also bought a badger motif jumper from Asos that I’ll be showing you soon!

Have you scored any eBay or charity shop bargains lately? It’s link up day so please do share what you’ve been wearing!
