Grey Faux Fur Trim Coat With Burgundy Accents

I’ve been looking to add more grey to my wardrobe, even though I’ve had more than my fair share of grey skies lately. It’s a classic colour that works well with most skin tones, especially when paired with bright accessories. I combined this grey faux fur trim coat with burgundy accents for contrast. Grey and burgundy work really well together, but I think blush pink would look lovely in Spring too.

However, the one thing that could really improve this coat is having the cuffs stitched onto the sleeves.

The quality of the coat is reasonable; it has some padding in the back so it’s no too thin. The finish on the stud fasteners is not great though, I think I’ll have to reinforce the stitching so they don’t work loose. However, the one thing that could really improve this coat is having the cuffs stitched onto the sleeves.

The idea of having detachable faux fur trim is great in theory, but only if the coat looks good both with and without it. You see, the niggle I have is that the cuffs are attached by very stretchy loops that hook onto buttons. If you wear the coat without them, obviously you can see the buttons. But when I put the cuffs on, the buttons and the loops show. Also, one loop snapped. It’s a shame because I really like the coat, but I’ll have to make some alterations to it. Or, more likely get someone else to do it because my sewing skills are abysmal.

I love wide brim hats (as well as baker boy hats) and have them in various colours.

Anyway, broken loops aside, I’m really happy with how the grey coat looks combined with the burgundy boots and hat. The jumper underneath has a navy base with a light and dark pink pattern. It has the flared sleeves that are so on trend right now. I bought it in the sales a few weeks ago, and although it’s now sold out, this one from the same range is very similar. Wearing this colour combination gave me the opportunity to wear one of my favourite hats. I love wide brim hats (as well as baker boy hats) and have them in various colours. They can create balance in an outfit, as well as hide messy hair on a windy day!

I love that coat! Gray is the backbone of my wardrobe!

The coat actually looks amazing on.But I know what you mean about the quality of these large online brands. I did a coat for one similar brand last year and the quality was so poor. They make them look amazing online and when the item arrives it’s completely different. Hence why I don’t work with any of them anymore. But it does look fantastic on you xx

Thanks Laurie. Yes I did have my reservations, but in fairness I’ve had some really good quality clothes from Stylewe. I’ve turned down offers of collaborations from a few other China sites lately because I need to be more selective. I can’t risk ending up with something that I don’t like and won’t wear. Wardrobe space is limited and I loathe being wasteful.

  3. Emma, I love the gray and burgundy together. This is really a great outfit! And the coat is fabulous! I do hope you are able to repair in a way that you will be able to wear it comfortably because it is super cute!

I’m a huge fan of grey and think it looks gorgeous with just about any colour. Your choice of burgundy is really pretty – and looks stunning on you. I do love that hat too 😀 It’s a lovely jacket, I do like the cuffs but it sounds like a bit too much hard work to me lol!

Thanks Suzy! The thing is I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to clothes. I can’t bear something that isn’t quite right, but I do really like the coat so it’ll be worth the faff of having it altered.

  6. I feel like a lot of our items need some extra help to make them perfect!! It’s usually worth the time and effort though!!

The coat is really cute and it sounds like such a unique way to hook and unhook the faux fur detailing. I love the blush/grey combo as well as how you paired it with the burgundy here. I do think that gray is a neutral and can be worn with really anything. I like grey and blue together or even grey and tan. Your hat is adorable!
