I had been looking for a sweater dress for weeks, months even, but just couldn’t find the right one. They were either too short, the wrong size or not the style I wanted. You wouldn’t think such a simple item of clothing would be so hard to find would you? Well, eventually I found this one at Asos – and in my preferred colour too. I’m a little bit obsessed with soft grey at the moment; it’s a much more flattering shade on me than cream or beige.
My other current obsessions are high neck sweaters, big earrings and sock boots, so combining all four in one outfit is a dream. This jumper dress is so soft, it feels heavenly to wear. The loose, unstructured style is comfortable beyond belief, and with tights and boots it’s the perfect outfit for a cold day. I could have paired the dress with the burgundy accessories I wore with the grey coat, but I opted for black instead. The bright tassel earrings add a little splash of colour to break up the neutrals. Combining the grey jumper dress and over the knee sock boots creates an on trend look that’s comfortable enough for every day.
These boots have quite high heels, but a low block heel would be a good option if you’ll be on your feet a lot. When I spotted the boots on sale in River Island I wasn’t sure if they were really “me”. I love the stretchy fabric of sock boots which means they don’t pinch or rub. Plus they add another layer for warmth when worn over tights. But I wondered if these strayed into Pretty Woman territory – they finish a good couple of inches above the knee. In the end I reasoned that I could always return them if I changed my mind, but I didn’t.
In all honesty, I’m not sure how much wear I’ll get from them. They work well with sweater dresses…so just as well I’ve ordered another one 😉 Wearing them with a slouchy jumper dress, or loose-fitting top and leggings dilutes the slightly risque style. I’m not going to ponder the age-appropriateness of OTK boots because, well, you know what I think about silly rules!
I bought these earrings from Asos – just the first of *ahem* several pairs of colourful tassel earrings now in my collection. Since buying these I’ve discovered that you can pick up some amazing earrings on eBay much cheaper. There doesn’t seem to be that much choice, but I’ve found some fabulous styles for less than £2! And yes, I’ve bought them in every colour 😉 Just search for “tassel earrings” and behold the rainbow of ear adornments that pop up in the results!
