Lightweight Biker Jacket and Culottes

I’ve got a feeling I’m going to be getting a lot of wear out of these culottes over Spring/Summer. They’re so comfortable and much more versatile than I’d imagined. I bought them for my trip to Abu Dhabi where I only wore flat shoes, but I’ve discovered they work equally well with heels. Wearing cropped trousers or culottes gives you the opportunity to show off your shoes; you can let them be the focus of attention and keep the rest of the outfit simple. I’m not of the “less is more” inclination though, so the gold sandals have to share the limelight!

The jacket is cropped so it doesn’t cover the waistband of the culottes – a longer jacket would ruin the silhouette and look shapeless.

For cooler Spring temperatures this lightweight biker jacket and culottes is a great option because they provide coverage without bulk. The jacket is cropped so it doesn’t cover the waistband of the culottes – a longer jacket would ruin the silhouette and look shapeless. With voluminous garments it’s important to have some definition otherwise they can swamp your body. My general rule is to pair a fitted top with a looser bottom half, or vice versa.

As it’s a lightweight fabric I could wear it for the office instead of a blazer, and under a long coat when it’s colder.

This ivory and black lightweight biker jacket is from online store Yoins, a brand I hadn’t heard of until recently. When I ordered the jacket I was expecting the fabric to be thicker and more rigid. However, it’s a farly thin crepe type material so it would be great for taking on holiday. As it’s a lightweight fabric I could also wear it for the office instead of a blazer. I could even layer it under a long coat when it’s colder.

I had to be careful with the sizing as Yoins has a standard size guide on the website but individual items vary in their sizing. This jacket is a UK 12-14 (the largest size available at the time) but I would say it’s more like a size 10. It is a little snug on the bust and shoulders, but not tight or restrictive. I’m wearing a black vest underneath which is fine, but I couldn’t comfortably wear a jumper with it. A thin blouse would be fine though.

My advice when ordering from overseas is: check the individual garment’s size guide, measure yourself accurately and check the returns policy.

When ordering from an overseas brand for the first time I’m always a bit apprehensive. I came across mixed reviews from customers – the negative ones mainly due to the delivery time. I was expecting to wait about three weeks for the jacket to arrive, but to my surprise it turned up in just over a week. All good. My advice when ordering from overseas is: check the individual garment’s size guide, measure yourself accurately and check the returns policy.

For accessories I took my cue from the gold tone zip and buttons on the jacket: a simple gold necklace that I’ve had for years, gold chain handle on my faux fur bag and strappy Biba sandals that are more comfortable than they look! The gold accents make up for the lack of colour I usually crave. I added a chunky bracelet, hat and sunglasses to complete the look.
