Styling a Winser Wrap Dress For Winter and Summer

At this time of year the weather can be quite unpredictable so I’m styling a Winser wrap dress for Winter and Summer, just to cover all bases! I bought this dress just before I went to Madrid last year and have worn it several times. I have a few wrap dresses, but this one is the best by miles. The design is superb because it is generously cut, ensuring it doesn’t flap about and expose parts you don’t want exposed (unless you stand on a bridge in high winds, but more on that later!).

Major brownie points for those deep pockets…I may have mentioned before how much I love dresses and skirts with pockets!

This dress hugs in all the right places, nipping in at waist and skimming over the hips…it is also amazingly comfortable due to the stretch jersey fabric. The way the stripes are arranged in different directions creates a very flattering effect. The belt is extraordinarily long, which makes it easy to fasten securely, but also left me wondering what to do with it. I tried tying it at the front, at the back, in a bow…but in the end I think it looks best double knotted at the front. Major brownie points for those deep pockets…I may have mentioned before how much I love dresses and skirts with pockets! 😉

Although I bought the dress at the end of Summer I knew I’d be able to wear it all year round with some simple layering. A plain black boat neck top works well underneath, as does a thin roll neck sweater like I’m wearing here. Opaque tights and boots complete the Winter layering, with the prerequisite pop of colour thanks to the burgundy messenger bag.

All of a sudden the sky turned grey and the wind picked up…leading to an embarrassing moment on the bridge when my dress blew up…

If you scroll down to the bottom of the post you’ll see how I originally styled the dress when I first bought it. I wore it for work on a warm Autumn day teamed with gold espadrilles and a bright red bag. I’d been enjoying my lunch break with my husband in the glorious sunshine, and we decided to take some photos before going back to the office. All of a sudden the sky turned grey and the wind picked up…leading to an embarrassing moment on the bridge when my dress blew up…just as some people were walking by! We moved to the other side of the bridge, hastily snapped a couple more photos and then called it a day. A few minutes later the heavens opened and we made it back inside in the nick of time. The things us bloggers (and long-suffering photographers) do for outfit photos!

Have you ever had an embarrassing moment while taking outfit photos? Be a good sport and share your funny stories in the comments…and don’t forget to link up!

  1. Emma, this dress is stunning! I love the wrap effect and the stripes are super flattering. Those pockets really are icing on the cake, too! And I love that it can be worn layered for winter or by itself in summer. ! I have a similar long sleeve dress with lots of bold stripes, but I would probably like it more if it had a belt or tie. That is a great story about the bridge, too. One you will laugh about for a long while, I’m sure!

Thanks Shelbee! I do love pockets, especially when taking blog photos because they give me somewhere to put my hands. I have such long arms that I feel awkward without pockets!

Love that dress! And the way you styled it. I haven’t had any embarrassing moments yet -probably because I’ve always stayed in the safety of the garden! But some location shots are on the agenda….

Thanks Gail! I usually stick to the garden for photos but it gets a bit samey, so every now and then I try to go somewhere else…even if I do feel silly when people stare!

What a sexy dress! I love wrap dresses and this is a very feminine one. And so easy to style for summer and winter. I like both looks.

This was my favourite from the collection last year! Absolutely love this dress! Plus you can get away with wearing it this way too. I need to catch up on your post’s. You have been busy! x

  5. Those funny times are the best though, Emma—they are the ones you remember!!
I love this dress!! Do you end up wearing a slip under this so it doesn’t cling to your tights? I keep wondering if there is a better way?

    • Emma Peach says:

Thank you Jodie. It doesn’t cling at all to tights. It’s quite a heavy jersey, without being too thick that it makes me hot, which helps a lot. I have skirts that cling to tights so I end up not wearing them. I don’t own a slip, although I keep meaning to buy one because it would also be handy for wearing under thin dresses.

That striped red dress is great Emma and I love how you styled it with the thin turtleneck underneath, it shows the versatility of the dress. Great cross-body bag too. On my post today I am also sharing a black+white look which I accessorized with a very similar magenta/plum cross-body bag. Come take a peak. Thanks for the linkup, sweet lady and enjoy this week!

Thank you Ada! I’ll pop over for a read 🙂 Lots to catch up on after being away for a week…ow I miss constant internet connectivity when I’m on holiday!

  7. Emma love how you styled both looks. It’s good to see that you can still rock your favorite summer dresses in the winter as well. Great post. Thank you for sharing.

  8. AH OH, A Marilyn moment, huh? Doesnt matter as i bet you still looked great when it happened, like you meant to do that!! I love this dress on you, very flattering and love what you mentioed the directions of the stripes making it more unique. It really looks good styled both winter and summer. I have one striped dress, perhaps I need to add another!
    Have a great week!

    • Emma Peach says:

Thanks Jess! It wasn’t quite as stylish as that famous Marilyn moment to be honest…without being too graphic, it prompted me to buy some big Bridgette Jones knickers, if you know what I mean 😉

I completely understand your obsession with the pockets. I have the same one. This dress is great. I love slimming effect that this stripes have (not because you need it, but because I’m always looking for such effect for me). I love the 70s vibe you gave to this dress with the layering.
