Navy, Green, Aubergine Model KT Work Bag + Style With a Smile Link Up

Do you remember that saying that “blue and green should never be seen”? In other words, combining these two colours is a fashion faux pas. Well thankfully, we’re all beginning to realise that rules are for fools…at least when it comes to getting dressed. Not content with ignoring that outdated rule, I’ve gone one better by combining navy, green AND aubergine, thanks to my Model KT bag.

Putting this outfit together I had two things in mind: I want to be warm but I don’t want to wear boots. Or a big jumper. Ok, that’s actually three things. Now don’t get me wrong, I love boots and jumpers. They are probably the most practical thing to wear at this time of year,  but you can have too much of a good thing. Besides, I’m impatient for Spring.

This navy jumper is a fine knit but very warm, so I was going to layer a lightweight coat over it. The one I had intended to wear is an M&S coat in chartreuse (a very similar style to this one) but it was too voluminous. Not at all how imagined it would look, which was disappointing because I really liked the two colours together. Feeling frustrated I went through my coats and jackets trying on different ones…when I remembered this Matthew Williamson blazer in the overspill wardrobe. I bought it on a whim from Cocosa about five years ago with a whopping 90% discount, but had never found a way to wear it, hence I forgot about it. The blazer is very similar in colour to the coat but a much better fit. All good, but it needed a third colour.

Because the jacket is such a vibrant colour, adding another bright hue could look garish, but the combination of navy, green and aubergine works like a dream.

I found the perfect companion in my aubergine Model KT bag. Because the jacket is such a vibrant colour, adding another bright hue could look garish, but the combination of navy, green and aubergine works like a dream. The overall look is smart casual. It looks professional but not too formal. I’m not keen on wearing ankle boots with these trousers because they leave a gap which makes my legs look shorter. Court shoes on soggy wet grass? No chance. It’s times like these that a practical Oxford style shoe justifies its place in my footwear collection. The masculine shape is offset by the higher than usual heel and funky snake print. They are incredibly comfortable too. Instead of my usual bold jewellery, I chose some delicate gold rings that mirror the colours of my outfit.

Star by Julien Macdonald floral print jacketThere’s no escaping the fact that Summer is on its way out, but that doesn’t mean we have to pack away the floral prints, it’s a trend that can work all year round, for both casual and more formal looks. Wearing a bright and bold jacket is such an easy way to transform an otherwise plain outfit, and the bright colours in this Star by Julien Macdonald blazer really stand out against the black trousers and top. The fabric is quite thin so it’s ideal for the Summer, but it could also work under an oversized coat in Winter. I kept accessories simple with my new Mila Blu leather bag (which I absolutely love!) and vintage court shoes. The only other hit of colour is the tassel necklace which was an absolute bargain at £3!

Arabella and Addison cat mouse sweater

When I stumbled across this Arabella and Addison cat and mouse sweater on the TK Maxx website I just had to have it! I love cats and anything with cats on so this jumper is right up my street, and having a mouse on it too makes it just that bit cuter. I wanted to keep the rest of the outfit simple to let the cat and mouse take centre stage, so I paired the sweater with these black Asos peg leg trousers and a pair of vintage black court shoes that belonged to my mum. Purrfect!

Asos trousers and M&S black jacket

I haven’t been wearing skirts much lately – when I start work at 6.30am it’s often quite chilly so trousers are the practical option, but rotating black and navy gets a bit boring, so opting for a pair of bright and colourful trousers makes a nice change. These mustard peg leg trousers are from Asos; I buy most of my trousers from Asos, mainly because I like the fit, but also because there is such a wide range of colours and styles. Mustard makes quite a colour statement so I paired the trousers with a black top, jacket and bag. I did contemplate wearing black shoes but these sand coloured sandals give an elongating effect to the legs – and they are very comfortable too!

The last time I wore these trousers on the blog I teamed them with purple – which do you prefer?

Next geometric print jacket Reiss silk blouse With the weather blowing hot and cold it makes deciding what to wear a little tricky, and it really was blowing…getting a photo without my hair all over my face was quite a challenge! It wasn’t too cold though so instead of wearing a coat I chose this Next geometric print jacket with a silk blouse from Reiss underneath. I wouldn’t usually pair a dark purple top with black trousers but the jacket has both colours in the pattern, while the white background provides some contrast.

A jacket with a bold print is a really useful item to have in your wardrobe because you can just throw it on over a plain dress, or shirt and trousers combination to create a look that stands out.

A jacket with a bold print is a really useful item to have in your wardrobe because you can just throw it on over a plain dress, or shirt and trousers combination to create a look that stands out. I bought the Reiss silk blouse and Modalu leather bag from Ebay – my favourite hunting ground for bargains. The bag was new with the tags still attached and cost less than £20 including postage! I first wore this Next jacket on the blog two years ago.
