Vivderma Detox Elixir Serum and Restoring Moisturiser

Keeping my skin happy in Winter is always a challenge. When the weather’s grim I don’t spend much time outdoors, which often results in a dull, sluggish complexion. Luckily, I was sent the skin-saving duo Vivderma Detox Elixir and Restoring Skin Moisturiser just in time.

Our complexion can be negatively affected by hormonal fluctuation, seasonal changes, environmental impact and over-exposure to damaging UV rays. This serum tackles it all.

The Detox Elixir is an ultra-light serum that calms and rebalances skin in crisis. It sinks into the skin effortlessly to boost radiance, minimise the appearance of pores and regulate sebum production. Our complexion can be negatively affected by hormonal fluctuation, seasonal changes, environmental impact and over-exposure to damaging UV rays. This serum tackles it all.

vivderma-detox-elixir serum

One of the main ingredients is Sacred Lotus which has calming, soothing, and anti-inflammatory properties. The serum has a milky consistency, not the slightly greasy feeling some serums have, so it’s perfect for using day and night.

I’ve used the whole bottle of Detox Elixir and since it ran out my skin has been noticeably duller and generally lacking radiance.

When gauging the effectiveness of a new product I look not only at improvements while I’m using it, but also for changes after I’ve finished it. I’ve used the whole bottle of Detox Elixir and since it ran out my skin has been noticeably duller and generally lacking radiance. Clearly it’s been having a positive effect. I’ve been using the serum with the Restoring Moisturiser and the two work really well together. Both lasted about six/seven weeks so my skin was hit with the double whammy of both running out at the same time.

The botanical blend soothes, tones, balances and calms, leaving skin nourished and hydrated.

The Restoring Moisturiser is a concentrated blend that delivers powerful anti-oxidant protection, deactivates free radicals and provides all round anti-ageing care. It’s a beautiful rose quartz-coloured gel, fragranced with essential oils of Petitgrain, Palmarosa, Jasmine, Rose and Neroli. The botanical blend soothes, tones, balances and calms, leaving skin nourished and hydrated.

Vivderma Restoring Moisturiser

The Restoring Moisturiser contains Bioretinol and Gladbackto improve microcirculation and help redensify the skin. All Vivderma products contain Dermahealth Biomimetic Skin Complex™ which “mimics the natural biological conditions of healthy skin to ensure optimal absorption”.

My skin was plumper, smoother and more radiant while using these two products.

What surprised me most about both the Detox Elixir and Restoring Moisturiser is the level of hydration they deliver while mattifying the skin. My skin was plumper, smoother and more radiant while using these two products. Dry, flaky patches disappeared, fine lines reduced and my skin tone became more even. All this and no afternoon shiny T-zone. I will definitely be making room in my bathroom cabinet for these on a permanent basis. The Detox Elixir costs £85 and the Restoring Moisturiser £50. Vivderma has a wide range of products to suit all skin types and concerns.

Have you tried anything from Vivderma? What do you use to keep your skin happy during Winter?

Beauty Essentials for Running Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Murad Essential-C moisture

If you’re thinking of taking up running, or even if you’re already a regular runner, beauty products might not be at the forefront of your mind when you’re lacing up your trainers and heading outdoors, but protecting your skin from the elements is vital if you don’t want to age prematurely.

The Advanced Active Radiance Serum contains a high level of vitamin C to protect against free radical damage and boost collagen.

In the warmer months my skincare regime of choice is Murad’s Essential-C range. The Essential-C Day Moisture SPF30 has a broad spectrum sun protection, which means it shields skin from both UVA and UVB rays. The Advanced Active Radiance Serum contains a high level of vitamin C to protect against free radical damage and boost collagen. It also claims to help cells resist environmental stresses including UV exposure and chemical aggressors and prevent future pigment formation. You can read my review of the Essential-C range here.

I also use the Essential-C eye cream to protect my peepers as well as a snug-fitting pair of sunglasses. My favourites are not the typical sporty type (I find the lenses are too small) but a pair of Salvatore Ferragamo shades I bought from TK Maxx years ago. They fit nice and snuggly without slipping and I’ve yet to find any others that I prefer. A high factor sunscreen is a must for any exposed parts of the body – I always use SPF 50 in the summer.

Vaseline is cheap and effective at preventing chafing, but if you fancy something a little more luxurious I can highly recommend Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream…

One thing that really can ruin a run is chafing. Sports bras, trainers and clothing can all rub, which is made worse if you sweat a lot…I discovered that the hard way! Vaseline is cheap and effective at preventing chafing, but if you fancy something a little more luxurious I can highly recommend Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream – both to prevent and treat any sore spots. The Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant stick is also perfect for preventing dry and chapped lips. You can read my thoughts on the Eight Hour range here.

Beauty Essentials for Running Soap and Glory Heel Genius Malibu SPF 50 suncream Salvatore Ferragmo sunglasses

Hard working feet will appreciate a soothing and nourishing foot cream such as Soap & Glory’s Heel Genius after a tough session. Regular running can cause a build up of hard skin, which isn’t going to do those pretty summer sandals justice!

Beauty Essentials for Running Benefit Benetint Clinique City Block Eye of Horus godess eye pencil

The one area of the face which is relatively sweat-proof is the eyes so I like to define my brows and lashes.

Now I don’t know about you but I just can’t bring myself to leave the house totally barefaced…vain I know but feeling pretty and working out are not mutually exclusive. Over the years I’ve put quite a few products to the sweat test (Clinique’s City Block and Benefit’s Benetint are firm favourites) but recently I’ve stumbled across some truly fabulous finds. The one area of the face which is relatively sweat-proof is the eyes so I like to define my brows and lashes. In my previous post I reviewed the L’Oreal Brow Artist Plumper which is now one of my running beauty essentials. It has fantastic staying power and costs just £5.99!

I picked up the L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes on a bit of a whim, which at £10.99 was quite a splurge for me, but I was really pleased with how it applied.

When it comes to waterproof mascaras I’m not too fussy, mainly because they tend to dry out before I get much use out of them, so I don’t like to spend too much on one. I picked up the L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes on a bit of a whim, which at £10.99 was quite a splurge for me, but I was really pleased with how it applied. It adds length and volume to my lashes with just a few strokes.

The Eye of Horus eye pencil, which was included in my Dream Box 3, is probably the best thing I’ve ever received in a beauty box.

As well as mascara I like to wear just a little eyeliner on my upper lash line for added definition, and right now there’s only one eye pencil for me. The Eye of Horus eye pencil, which was included in my Dream Box 3, is probably the best thing I’ve ever received in a beauty box. I can’t praise it highly enough. For me it ticks all the boxes – it applies with the lightest of touch, delivers amazing pigmentation and does not budge.

I’ve posted a picture of me which was taken about an hour after I finished the Paris Marathon last Sunday and as you can see the eye makeup is still on. There’s just the tiniest smudge of mascara under my left eye but given that it was roasting hot and I got completely soaked several times running under the water sprayers I think these products deserve a medal for going the distance too!

Beauty Essentials for Running Post marathon selfie

So those are my beauty essentials for running but if you have any recommendations I’d love to hear about them in the comments. I’ll be posting about my trip to Paris in the coming days! Thanks for reading, I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Latest in Beauty Dream box 3

When I saw there was a third British Beauty Blogger Dream Box from Latest in Beauty on sale I didn’t even have to check the contents list before hitting the “add to basket” button. The last Dream Box (you can see my post about it here) was amazing and this one is every bit as good. Containing 16 items and worth an incredible £110 it’s not surprising that it has sold out. When Jane Cunningham (AKA the British Beauty Blogger) puts together a beauty box you know it’s going to be full of incredible products. I held out on posting about the box because I wanted to try most of the items first rather than just list the contents, and quite a few have already become part of my daily beauty and makeup routine.  As an added bonus the box also includes offers from the brands featured.

I’ve listed the products at the bottom of the post with a mini review of each.

Eye of Horus pencil and Benefit They're real remover

The full list of contents:

Eye Of Horus Pencil Eyeliner – Full Size RRP £17.00

Quite simply this is the best eye pencil I’ve tried. It’s soft and creamy, glides on like a dream, and it has some serious staying power. The packaging is beautiful (I love the name!) and with a very useful smudging tip on the other end of the pencil it is an absolute winner for me. It’s perfect for creating a smoky look. I received the pencil in Nubian Brown, which I was delighted with as it’s an intensely dark shade of brown and is now my eye pencil of choice. I hadn’t heard of the brand before but now I use it every day and will definitely repurchase it when this one runs out.

SALON SCIENCE Reglosse Smoothing Serum – Full Size 50ml RRP £18.00

The first time I tried this I definitely noticed a difference – my hair felt softer and lighter, as well as easier to manage. My hair is prone to dryness and frizz so I have to use a serum after every wash. Some serums are too heavy and sticky to use on dry hair but this one isn’t, you could apply it to the ends of your hair in between washes without making it limp or greasy. Oh, and it smells divine!

Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Melting Cleanser – Sample Size 15ml

As a die-hard fan of Liz Earle’s Cleanse and Polish I’m quite hard to please when it comes to cleansers, but having used this 3-in-1 cleanser for a few days in a row now, I think I may have found another skincare favourite. It’s a water-activated gel that turns into an oil, and then becomes a hydrating milk. It’s rich in vitamin C, Rose hip oil and virgin cherry oil to protect, nourish and hydrate the skin. My skin did seem to benefit from using this cleanser, feeling soft and appearing more radiant.  It claims to remove long-wear and waterproof makeup, which I didn’t test it on as I prefer to use a micellar water before cleansing, but in terms of how my skin felt after using it I’d definitely consider buying a full size version, which is £24 for 118ml.

Nuxe Creme Fraiche de Beaute Mask – Full Size 50ml RRP £18.50

I don’t use face masks very often, mainly because I’m too impatient to leave them on long enough for them to work properly, but you have the option with this one of either removing it with toner or massaging it into the skin after 10 minutes. Due to its light texture I decided to leave it on and was surprised at how easily my skin absorbed it. If you’ve got sensitive, dry skin then I’d recommend giving it a try. My skin felt and looked hydrated and soothed the next morning.

Benefit They’re Real! Remover – Sample Size 7.5ml

I’m a huge fan of Benefit products and so I was keen to see if this made the job of removing mascara any easier than my current method of using a micellar water. In terms of effectiveness it performs well, but I found I needed quite a lot of it to do the job properly. I applied it to a cotton wool pad which seemed to absorb most of it, so in order to avoid dragging over the eye area I had to apply quite a lot. It costs £14.50 for 50ml which I think is pretty steep. I’ll be sticking with the micellar water.

Vita Liberata pHenomenal 2-3 Week Tan Lotion with Tanning Mitt – Sample Size 20ml

I’ve tried Vita Liberata before, having received a sample in another beauty box, and although I’m not a prolific user of fake tan (and being allergic to some of them) I did really like this brand. A tanning mitt really makes a difference when it comes to achieving an even application. I haven’t yet tried this particular version but with Summer just around the corner I’m sure I’ll be getting plenty of use out of it.

The Scottish Fine Soaps Company Luxury Soap – Full Size 100g £4.95

I don’t use old fashioned bars of soap very often these days, which makes them seem like a bit of a luxury, especially when they are premium quality. There were two varieties available of the soap and I received Sea Kelp which has a lovely fresh fragrance. It looks so nice in the tin that I don’t want to use it!

Deciem Hand Chemistry Intense Youth Complex – Full Size 30ml RRP £7.99

This hand cream contains a 19.5% active complex concentration which “visibly improves firmness, elasticity, density, evenness, brightness, texture, smoothness and hydration” according to Hand Chemistry’s website. The before and after photos are impressive  so I’ve got high hopes for this hand cream. The backs of my hands often look a bit parched so I’ll be putting it to the 10 day test to see if it makes a noticeable difference. After just a few uses it looks very promising!

Dr Organic Lip Balm  – Full Size 5.7ml RRP £3.49

I have loads of lip balms, at least one in every bag so I was more than happy to add another one to my collection. There were three variants of the Dr Organic Lip Balm – cherry, mint and argan – I received argan which has quite a strong marzipan fragrance due to the almond oil it contains. I really don’t like marzipan so I didn’t think I’d like using the lip balm but once applied it’s not too overpowering. At £3.49 they are great value for money and I’ll be trying out one of the other varieties at some point.

Crabtree & Evelyn Pear and Pink Magnolia Body Lotion  – Travel Size 50ml

This body lotion has a delicate, fruity/floral fragrance that is perfect for Spring. I’ll be popping this into my travel bag.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet – Full Size RRP £8.99

I tend to stay away from matt lip products because I find them quite drying but I really like this one from Bourjois. The pigmentation is fabulous and it feels soft and silky on the lips. Bourjois always impresses me with its quality and value for money. A definite repurchase.

Makeup Revolution One Fluid Blush – Full Size 14.4g RRP £3.00

There aren’t too many liquid blushes on the market. I use Benefit’s Benetint every day so I was delighted to try out another one. Firstly, I can’t believe the price – £3! It provides a sheer, natural colour, making it a perfect addition to your holiday makeup bag. At such bargain prices I’ll be popping down to Superdrug to pick up a few more items from Makeup Revolution.

2 Essence Nail Polishes – Full Size 8ml RRP £1.60 each

I haven’t had chance to try these out yet as I have a gel manicure, but I love the colours which I think would look lovely with a tan. There are some fabulous budget nail polishes on the market… I never spend more than a fiver on a bottle as I just don’t see the point of paying any more than that. At £1.60 a bottle you can’t really go wrong!

Roger & Gallet Fleur de Figuier 1.5ml

This  fragrance from Roger & Gallet was inspired by the figs which grow near the mountains of Esterel in Provence. It’s a fruity/floral fragrance with top notes of mandarin orange, grapefruit and cumin; middle notes are fig leaf and fig; base notes are fig nectar, cedar and musk. A beautiful Summery fragrance.

 Orelia Temporary Tattoos (1 sheet)  – £5.00

I’ve seen a lot of these temporary tattoos on Instagram lately and they’re really growing on me. I think they look great on tanned skin in the  Summer or on holiday and I can’t wait to try them.

My verdict

Jane has really pulled out all the stops again to bring us this fabulous beauty box packed full of gorgeous products. I’m delighted to have discovered some new brands and products that have made it onto my favourites list. Bring on the next one!

Did you manage to snap up one of these beauty boxes before they sold out? Are any of these already your favourites? Do let me know in the comments!

Thanks so much for reading! Have a lovely day!

Glamour Beauty Party Edit box Latest in Beauty have teamed up with Glamour magazine again for another amazing collaboration.  Latest in Beauty The Glamour Party Beauty Edit Box is a fantastic beauty box filled with 13 gorgeous party essentials. The range of products and brands included is pretty impressive – there’s skincare, haircare, nail polish, makeup and self-tan.

Glamour Beauty Party Edit box

As always, I’ll save the travel size items for travelling – I like to keep a little stock pile of skincare and hair products for holidays and short breaks. I can never resist swatching the makeup items in beauty boxes and testing out mascara though!

Wild About Beauty eyeshadow Heather

The Wild About Beauty eyeshadow in Heather looks quite purple in the case but when I swatched it I was surprised at how much the brown tones really show through, which makes it much more wearable for me.

Stila eyeliner and Collection mascara

Stila waterproof eyeliner swatch

When it comes to mascaras I’ve always favoured high end brands, but I’ve been really impressed by some of the more affordable products just lately, one of which is the Collection Lengthening Mascara in this box. It has a rubberised wand with really short bristles that catch every lash and separate to give a feathery look. One application gives a natural look but additional coats build up the volume for more impact. Because the bristles are so short it means you can’t get too much mascara on the wand so it does take a few coats to achieve anything other than a very natural look, but the advantage of that is the brush doesn’t get overloaded and make the lashes clumpy. It’s not my favourite drug store mascara but considering the price (£3.99 at Boots at time of writing) it’s fantastic value for money.

The Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner is just fabulous. It’s highly pigmented and long-wearing…it really has some serious staying power! It glides on effortlessly without any dragging, and it can double up as a smoky shadow. Brilliant!

Burts Bees lip shimmer stick

The Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer adds a hint of colour while hydrating and protecting your pout…a winter essential to prevent chapped lips. I received Rhubarb, which oddly enough tastes very minty and feels quite tingly on the lips! I wasn’t very impressed with the packaging – it twisted up ok but wouldn’t twist back down again, and when I applied a little pressure to it I squashed it. Very messy!

All in all, I’m really pleased with the selection of products in the box. Another great collaboration between Glamour and Latest in Beauty!

The contents of the box:

L’Oreal Paris Elnett Satin hairspray 75ml

Wild About Beauty Powder Eyeshadow (6 variations, I received Heather)

Popband London hairbands (packet containing 2)

Philip Kingsley Moisture Balancing Shampoo and Conditioner 20ml each

Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer (3 variations, I received Rhubarb)

Liz Earle sale haul

When Liz Earle had a sale recently it was a chance to stock up on some of my favourite beauty products at a discount. After trying the Sweet Orange and Mint Cleanse and Polish Special Edition (you can read my review here) I was regretting not buying the other special editions before they sold out. Luckily the Orange Flower and Chamomile Cleanse and Polish was back in stock, and even better, was on sale for £15.75. Offers like this don’t happen very often so I was over the moon with my Liz Earle sale haul.

Admittedly, chamomile might not be a fragrance to everyone’s liking, and this Cleanse and Polish does have quite a strong smell of chamomile, in fact I can’t really detect the orange flower at all. Chamomile is known for its relaxing properties, so I use this Cleanse and Polish at night time, and use one of the other versions in the morning. I have to admit that it’s not my favourite version of Cleanse and Polish, but it is the perfect night time cleanser, particularly if you take a few moments to breathe in the aroma before applying it to your face.

When Liz Earle launched the bodycare range I received a sachet of the Vanilla and Saffron Silky Body Lotion in the post…I was smitten at first sniff!

When Liz Earle launched the bodycare range I received a sachet of the Vanilla and Saffron Silky Body Lotion in the post…I was smitten at first sniff! It has the most gorgeous, warm and comforting fragrance. Containing shea butter and avocado oil, it sinks into the skin effortlessly, leaving it smooth, soft and hydrated. I was really tempted to buy the full size when I first tried it, but at £15.25 it’s a luxury item and not exactly purse friendly, so I was really surprised to see it in the sale, along with the matching Creamy Shower Nectar for £16.20 – they usually retail for £28.50 for the pair! I’ll be saving these for special occasions to eke them out as long as possible.

The Strengthening Nail Colour formula is enriched with avocado and borage oils, which claims to last up to 12 days.

The nail polishes have been on my “to try” list for ages but I never got around to ordering any. This trio were on sale for £9, which is amazing value considering they usually cost £8.50 each. There was a set of four darker colours on sale for £13 but I already have lots of dark nail polishes, and with Spring (hopefully) not to too far away I opted for some brighter shades.

Moonlight is a very chic and contemporary grey-blue shade. Awakening is a pale salmon pink, the perfect shade for Spring, while Parade is a bright pink with a hint of coral, which would look fabulous with a tan. The Strengthening Nail Colour formula is enriched with avocado and borage oils, which claims to last up to 12 days. I’ll be testing these out on my toes to see if they withstand the rigours of running! The cherry on the cake was the free 30ml tube of the original Cleanse and Polish and free delivery!
