SheIn Wishlist skirts

If you’re looking to update your wardrobe without breaking the bank then SheIn is bound to have something to fit both your style and your budget. The choice is phenomenal…I could (and often do) spend hours browsing the website. A way to really make an impact is with a statement skirt. I love a flared midi skirt: elegant and flattering, they define the waistline creating an hourglass silhouette and show off your shoes perfectly! I’ve picked my favourites from the SheIn website.

Floral print satin bombers are everywhere at the moment…Wear one with a pleated midi skirt and trainers for a casual chic outfit.

An easy way of pepping up a plain outfit is with a jacket. A classic blazer can really  pull an outfit together, whether it’s a classic jeans and T-shirt combination for off-duty chic, or paired with tailored trousers for the office. You’ll get plenty of mileage from a tweed, military or tuxedo-style jacket. For a more casual option the bomber is both practical and on trend right now. Floral print satin bombers are everywhere at the moment.  Both casual and feminine, they are the perfect Autumn wardrobe update. Wear one with a pleated midi skirt and trainers for a casual chic outfit.

I’m really tempted to order the leopard print biker jacket…animal print never goes out of fashion! You can see me wearing the navy and white striped jacket here.

Ruffles, bell sleeves and appliqué tops are also big trends this season. I love the gingham top with ruffled sleeves, and the lips shirt is a funky twist on the classic white shirt.

When ordering from SheIn it’s worth checking the size chart – I usually have to go up a size. You can get 40% off your first order of over $55 US, and free shipping on orders over $99.

Shades of Blue With a Pop of Red Zara navy jacket Gap jeans HM sheer spot top

It was my daughter’s birthday at the weekend so on Saturday we had a party at the bowling alley for her and some school friends (kids with heavy bowling balls…what could possibly go wrong?) which was almost as much fun for the adults as we got a game in too! After I finished work on Sunday morning we went out for a family lunch at a nearby pub that serves the most wonderful food. Eating out requires comfort and a degree of smartness, so choosing what to wear wasn’t too difficult. Jeans, jacket and flat shoes is my go-to casual outfit combination and this navy Zara blazer has proved to be a wardrobe hero: I’ve worn it so many times.  It’s one of those items that I want to last forever.

Navy works well with so many colours but this time I decided to wear shades of blue with a pop of red.

Navy works well with so many colours but this time I decided to wear shades of blue with a pop of red. I love the contrast of cobalt blue and bright red. I’ve had the top for years – it has sheer sleeves so it’s ideal for layering under a jacket…I’m really glad I bought it in black too. The only new part of this outfit is the pale blue loafers which I bought from M&S. Even though a beautiful pair of heels can still make my heart flutter I have to be sensible and  think of the comfort factor! Heels are now reserved for occasions that don’t require much walking.

Do you have an outfit combination that you go back to over and over? Let me know in the comments or drop me a line on TwitterInstagram or Facebook!

Last Night in Paris at the Terrasse Hotel Montmartre Galeries Lafayette rooftop Opera Garnier

After our trip to Burgundy we returned to Paris for one last night. As well as staying in our favourite hotel we found ourselves back at Galeries Lafayette to exchange a broken toy we’d bought earlier in the week…it wasn’t sabotage, honestly! Anyway, as we just had to go back we took the opportunity of popping up onto the roof for a few photos. The view is pretty spectacular as it overlooks Opéra Garnier.

Spending our last night in Paris at the Terrass Hotel in Montmartre was a real treat as we stayed there on my 40th birthday trip a couple of years ago. It was closed for refurbishment when we were in the city last year so we were eager to see how it had changed. As well as the reception area being completely rearranged and modernised, the bedrooms have been given a serious revamp. But the most impressive alteration is the restaurant and bar area on the 7th floor. Whereas before it had been just a small outdoor terrace area (albeit with fabulous views) it has since been expanded to include a sleek and modern restaurant overlooking Paris with a prime view of the Eiffel Tower in the distance.

Each of the 92 bedrooms have been decorated in the style of performing artists’ Loge rooms with studio lamps and directors’ chairs. Our room was plenty big enough for the three of us – Isobel’s single bed was by a large window with views of Montmartre cemetery and the Eiffel Tower in the distance. The luxurious extras of the Tassimo machine and L’Occitane toiletries were the perfect finishing touches! If you can’t bear to leave your pooch at home, fear not: the hotel even accommodates small pets for an extra €15 per night – baskets and bowls provided!

The reception area has been completely redesigned and the layout changed. I could have happily sat there reading and drinking coffee but there’s so much to do and see in Paris that I just wanted to get out there exploring!

It was a real treat for Isobel to sit at a bar with a view of the Eiffel Tower and wake up to one!

I love Montmartre, it’s my favourite place to stay in Paris. We’re already planning our next trip to the Terrass Hotel…in fact I’ve been eyeing up the Penthouse…well a girl can dream!

Do you love Paris as much as I do? What are your favourite places to go and things to see? Let me know in the comments 🙂

Biba leopard print top Marks and Spencer metallic leather skirt

You probably know by now that I buy a lot of my clothes on Ebay – I’ve found some really amazing bargains there, as well as tracking down sold out and out of season pieces. Admittedly it is a bit of gamble, especially if it’s not a brand you’re too familiar with, but sometimes it’s worth the risk – you can always relist it if it’s not suitable. Today’s outfit features not one, but two items from Ebay: the top and the skirt, which cost around £20 in total, including postage.

The Marks and Spencer metallic leather skirt was a real gem of a find – it wasn’t something I was looking for but when I saw it I immediately added it to my watch list…

The Marks and Spencer metallic leather skirt was a real gem of a find – it wasn’t something I was looking for but when I saw it I immediately added it to my watch list, fully expecting it to sell for anything up to £50. To my delight I snapped it up for £12 plus £4 postage! I was fairly confident it would fit ok as I have many items from M&S, although I wasn’t sure about what to wear with it. After picking out a few different sweaters and tees I settled on this Biba leopard print sheer top. It has a smattering of turquoise which co-ordinates with the skirt, while the orange provides contrast. A metallic leather skirt paired with a brightly coloured leopard print top is quite a statement-making outfit so I chose shoes in a predominantly nude shade with just a little orange to compliment the top.

Since we took these photos the weather has taken a turn for the worse…rain, hail, sleet and snow…we’ve had the lot so it may be some time before I get to wear this outfit again! It’s back to boots and tights for a while!

Clemens en August belted dress

A classic black dress is the obvious choice for a Valentine’s Day outfit, some might say a cliche even, but the LBD will never let you down. This Clements en August dress is a little bit different in that it has an unusual style of belt…it has those plastic clips that you find on backpacks and child seats – quirky huh? The belt feeds through loops on the drapey section to keep it in place. I bought the dress a few years ago in one of the Outnet’s legendary flash sales, which is where I also scored the Charlotte Olympia heels (although not at the same time). The heels are called “Wild at Heart” which makes me love them even more! They are perfect for Valentine’s Day, not just because they are so gorgeous, but because by the end of the evening you’ll want to be swept off your feet…these shoes may look pretty but they are definitely not for walking in!

By the end of the evening you’ll want to be swept off your feet…these shoes may look pretty but they are definitely not for walking in!

I don’t wear big heels very often these days, but I’ll make an exception for shoes this beautiful every once in a while. I’d normally restrict myself to just one statement piece in an outfit but as it’s Valentine’s Day I’m pulling out all the stops and wearing my Angel Jackson bag. I love the bright colours and the chic chain handle!

What’s your go-to item for evenings out? Do you favour the LBD or something more colourful? I’ll be posting another Valentine’s Day inspired look later in the week so stay tuned! Whatever your plans are I hope you have a fabulous Valentine’s Day!
