Brown and navy: a classic workwear outfit, Oasis brown coat, Finery navy trousers, Jennifer Hamley Model KT bag

A classic workwear outfit for me is a simple trousers and fitted jumper combination. I’m so happy that I bagged these Finery trousers at less than half price ūüôā They’re still available at Asos for only ¬£32 and they are worth every penny! Adding a pair of good quality navy or black trousers to your wardrobe will serve you well; they pair with just about any colour for a no fuss smart work outfit. I first wore these trousers on the blog a few weeks ago with a red coat and boots, but I opted for a more muted palette on this occasion. I¬†particularly like the mix of navy and the warm brown coat, which looks vibrant in the bright sunshine.

Turtlenecks are my favourite style of sweater because they’re both practical and versatile.

Eager to add more brown tones to my outfits, I picked up this lovely jumper in River Island a couple of weeks ago. Turtlenecks are my favourite style of sweater because they’re both practical and versatile. Choosing one in a soft, fine knit ensures maximum comfort. The sleeves on this one really caught my eye; the gathering on the shoulders and ribbed cuffs with the frills create an interesting shape. It’s also available in cream, blue and black (the blue and black are now reduced from ¬£26 to ¬£12, although sizes are limited).

My trusty Jennifer Hamley Model KT bag holds my laptop and other essentials. Although I also have it in orange and teal, I tend to use this aubergine bag the most. I kept my jewellery simple with one of my favourite rings from Pia and a bracelet that my Dad bought for me on a recent trip to Madeira.

The sun may have been shining but there was a very cold wind yesterday when we shot these photos. Winter isn’t quite done with us yet!

I’m a sucker for buying coats in the sales; even though I have lots already, I just can’t resist a bargain. I wear my long camel coat so much that I wondered if I could justify buying this brown one as it’s quite similar. But of course I caved and bought it (browsing Brand Alley is far too tempting!).

By teaming the coat with tan trousers and a brown hat it allows the colour accents and gold jewellery to stand out.

This classic tobacco brown shade will work well with lots of different colours, including neutral hues as well as rich jewel tones. It would also look very chic with a black roll neck sweater and trousers, but I wanted to add some colour. It’s very rare that I dress head-to-toe in neutrals. By teaming the coat with tan trousers and a brown hat it allows the colour accents and gold jewellery to stand out. I’d completely forgotten I had this hat – it was hidden under a stack of other hats in the wardrobe! It was a nice surprise to find it again!

I often wear these trousers with a navy roll neck sweater, but I wanted a change so chose this dark green jumper instead. I bought it from Laura Ashley a couple of years ago. The last time I wore it on the blog was also with brown…in February. I guess I’m a creature of habit! Maybe I should try some fresh colour combinations. I do like how the warm browns with dark green and aubergine keep the colour palette muted without looking dull. It also helped that the sun was shining which brought out the gold jewellery and hardware on my bag.

Featuring check print, faux fur and crystal embellishment, these trainers are fun and quirky.

Wearing trainers for work is now a regular thing for me, but that doesn’t mean my footwear has to be boring! Featuring check print, faux fur and crystal embellishment, these trainers are fun and quirky. They were also a pre-Christmas sale bargain. They pinch a little on my bunions but I’m hoping they will stretch over time. It’s a shame my trousers partially cover them…those faux fur strips are so strokeable! Now I’m thinking I could wear them with dark green tights and a skirt to really show them off!

Do you like to wear fun and quirky trainers? Or do you prefer a more classic style of flat shoe?

Belstaff leather jacket Model KT bag

As a lover¬†of bright colours I don’t often wear neutrals; I find they can make me look washed out. In general I feel much more comfortable in red, blue or green than beige, tan and cream. I often recall Sue Kreitzman’s warning: “Don’t wear beige, it might kill you”.¬†So it was with a little trepidation that I put this outfit together.

My Jennifer Hamley Model KT bag in salamander lifts the neutrals with a pop of orange.

I bought the shirt from Zara on my last¬†trip to Paris¬†along with the hat I wore in¬†this post. The print appealed to me instantly so I bought it without even trying it on. Out of my colourful comfort zone though, I struggled to find¬†a way to wear it that didn’t look bland. Only one thing to do – add colour with accessories. My Jennifer Hamley Model KT bag in salamander lifts the neutrals¬†with a pop¬†of orange. I’ve featured the¬†aubergine¬†and¬†teal¬†versions of this amazing laptop bag on the blog before. I don’t often buy something in three colours, so that says a lot about how much I love this design.

I wasn’t actually planning on wearing the jacket with this outfit until the last minute, but it’s been waiting long enough for an outing.

While the shirt waited nine months to make¬†its debut, the leather jacket had to wait a lot longer…six years in fact! I don’t know why, just one of those times when if you don’t find a way of incorporating a piece of clothing into your wardrobe straight away it ends up languishing on the hanger. Such a¬†shame considering how soft and buttery it is…and that Belstaff jackets are very expensive. I wasn’t actually planning on wearing the jacket with this outfit until the last minute, but it’s been waiting long enough for an outing. I wasn’t sure if it’d work but I figured if it didn’t I just wouldn’t use those photos.

I bought the jacket when my daughter was a baby –¬†I’d popped in to TKMaxx for some baby clothes and my attention wandered. Not being able to resist a browse I spotted the jacket on the clearance rail¬†and had to have it. Even heavily reduced it was still expensive. I remember calling my husband from the shop to ask if it was OK to buy it, even though it was being funded by my savings! In my mind it was a treat to myself for going through a very stressful time.

The white piping gives the trousers a casual feel so they pair well with tennis shoes or flats.

When I bought¬†these trousers from Asos I also ordered the matching jacket, but it was too baggy and a bit too matchy matchy for my liking. It looked great on the model styled casually with Stan Smiths, but it didn’t work for me. The white piping gives the trousers a casual feel so they pair well with tennis shoes or brogues. If I had a mid¬†length camel coat¬†I would wear that with the trousers for a slouchy look. That’s another thing on my “to buy” list, which seems to be¬†never-ending. For now my motto is “keep calm and shop your closet”!

Navy, Green, Aubergine Model KT Work Bag + Style With a Smile Link Up

Do you remember that saying that “blue and green should never be seen”? In other words, combining these two colours is a fashion faux pas. Well thankfully, we’re all beginning to realise that rules are for fools…at least when it comes to getting dressed. Not content with ignoring that outdated rule, I’ve gone one better by combining navy, green AND aubergine, thanks to my Model KT bag.

Putting this outfit together I had two things in mind: I want to be warm but I don’t want to wear boots. Or a big jumper. Ok, that’s actually three things. Now don’t get me wrong, I love boots and jumpers. They are probably the most practical thing to wear at this time of year, ¬†but you can have too much of a good thing. Besides, I’m impatient for Spring.

This navy jumper is a fine knit¬†but very warm, so I was going to layer a lightweight coat over it. The one I had intended to wear is an M&S coat in chartreuse (a very similar style to¬†this one) but it was too voluminous. Not at all how imagined it would look, which was disappointing because I really liked the two colours together. Feeling frustrated I went through my coats and jackets trying on different ones…when I remembered this Matthew Williamson blazer in the overspill wardrobe. I bought it on a whim from Cocosa¬†about five years ago with a whopping 90% discount, but¬†had never found a way to¬†wear it, hence I forgot about it. The blazer is very similar in colour to the coat but a much better fit. All good, but it needed a third colour.

Because the jacket is such a vibrant colour, adding another bright hue could look garish, but the combination of navy, green and aubergine works like a dream.

I found the perfect companion in my aubergine Model KT bag. Because the jacket is such a vibrant colour, adding another bright hue could look garish, but the combination of navy, green and aubergine works like a dream. The overall look is smart casual. It looks professional but not too formal. I’m not keen on wearing ankle boots with these trousers because they leave a gap which makes my legs look shorter. Court shoes on soggy wet grass? No chance. It’s times like these that a practical¬†Oxford style shoe justifies its place¬†in my footwear collection. The masculine shape is offset by the higher than usual heel and funky snake print. They are incredibly comfortable too. Instead of my usual bold jewellery, I chose some delicate gold rings that mirror the colours of my outfit.

StyleWe Red Top Black Skinny Jeans Jennifer Hamley Clutch

Happy Friday! I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and enjoyed some stress-free time with your loved ones. I had a very relaxing Christmas Day and Boxing Day at home with the family, including my mum who managed to get away for a couple of days in between dialysis sessions. The house was filled with toys and mountains of wrapping paper, which completely freaked the cat out. I’m hoping to restore some kind of normality before I go back to work on Tuesday…I’m not looking forward to that 5am alarm!

For my last post of 2016 I’m keeping it casual with a StyleWe red top, black skinny jeans and my Jennifer Hamley Clutch from the Model KT bag.

I’ve done a little bit of shopping in the sales over the last few days and picked up some ankle boots, a dress and a velvet jacket. I’m sure they’ll be making an appearance on the blog soon. For my last post of 2016 I’m keeping it casual with a StyleWe red top, black skinny jeans and my Jennifer Hamley Clutch from the Model KT bag. I ordered the red top with the midi skirt I wore in this post but it was too cold at the time to wear it. Also, it wasn’t quite the right top for the skirt as it’s a bit looser than I expected. ¬†The weather was quite mild for a few days in the run up to Christmas so I took the opportunity of taking some outdoor photos.

I find taking outfit photos at this time of year¬†really tricky because there’s so little daylight. I’m definitely looking forward to Spring!

The eagled-eyed among you might notice that I’m wearing a different nail polish in the first two photos – that’s because the first attempt at photographing this outfit didn’t go too well. The light was poor and the colour of the top looked really washed out. I find taking outfit photos at this time of year¬†really tricky because there’s so little daylight. I’m definitely looking forward to Spring!

I hope you all have a wonderful New Year’s Eve, whatever you’re doing. We’re staying at home and having drinks and nibbles with a few friends. Every year we say we’ll go out somewhere but never do! Too cold and too expensive!¬†One thing I will be doing in the new year is launching my own blog link up…I’ll keep you posted!

Thanks so much for supporting the blog over the last year, I really appreciate it. I wish you all a very Happy New Year!
