Cat print shirt dress with red accessories

I love the versatility of shirt dresses; you can wear them with sandals in Summer, and with tights and boots in cooler weather. You can even wear them as a duster over jeans or shorts. So when I spotted this cat print shirt dress in a Next outlet on my lunch break I had to have it. This dress ticks so many boxes: it has cats, ruffles, pockets and it’s just the right length…what more could a cat-loving fashionista ask for?

…teaming this cat print shirt dress with red accessories seemed like the obvious choice for late Summer.

It’s quite difficult to tell whether the print is navy or black (I think it’s a very dark navy). Either way, teaming this cat print shirt dress with red accessories seemed like the obvious choice for late Summer. Another option is tan, which would work well for Autumn. I may well switch the tie belt for a wider one in future. I did consider a wide red belt with this outfit, but didn’t want to go overboard on the matching accessories.

This red bag is also a belt bag (it has loops at the back for the belt to slot through). It’s Zara’s budget-friendly alternative to the Gucci belt bag/bumbag seen in so many street style photos. I bought it in the sale, making it extra budget-friendly ūüėČ I don’t like to invest big bucks in passing trends, although I’m hoping this one sticks around because it’s oh so practical. Also, I haven’t actually worn it as a bumbag yet and I don’t want to miss the boat!

Cat print shirt dress with red accessories, Les Nereides cat ring, Zara red belt bag

This cute cat ring is from Les Nereides, one of my favourite jewellery brands. The designs are really quirky, and nature themes feature strongly in their pieces. I love anything with an animal motif (although I’m sure you know that by now!) You can find lots of Les Nereides jewellery on eBay for very reasonable prices.

Are you a fan of shirt dresses? Do you love prints featuring animals and nature themes?

Khaki faux suede biker jacket and cropped grey trousers

In Tuesday’s post I was dressing for the hot and humid weather in shorts and a vest; since then the heat has dropped away to be replaced by cooler, wet conditions. While it’s by no means cold, it serves as a reminder that Autumn is just around the corner. That means I’ll be getting plenty of wear out of my jackets, especially lightweight biker jackets.

The last time I wore this jacket on the blog I paired it with red…maybe it’s time to think of some alternatives!

I like them because they go with almost anything – trousers, jeans, a pencil skirt or even a dress. The fact that I can buy them in a multitude of colours just makes them more appealing. As well as this khaki one (previously seen here) I also have one in bright blue, plus a thicker one in mustard for Winter, which I’ll feature in due course.¬†The red lifts the muted tones of the khaki faux suede biker jacket and cropped grey trousers. Red Mila Blu bag and cropped grey trousers

This type of outfit will serve me well as we transition from Summer to Autumn. I can’t help looking for jackets like this in other colours; they’re just so comfortable and versatile. Unlike real suede, this faux suede fabric is slightly stretchy and feels much softer. As it’s lightweight it would be ideal for travelling in, and the elasticity means it can easily accomodate a thicker layer underneath if required. That said, I’m hoping I won’t be needing chunky sweaters for a good few weeks yet, maybe months. I never did put my Winter wardrobe away though…it’s always good to be prepared!

What are your go-to pieces for the changing of the seasons?  Are you looking forward to Autumn or still wanting to hold on to Summer? (Definitely the latter for me!)

Stripes and Cats Mango striped cat motif top Amevie Paris sunglasses

There’s only one way to improve a striped top, and that’s with a little embellishment. While I love a stripes and floral print combo, nothing comes close to stripes and cats! I’m a sucker for animal motifs so when I saw this top in the Mango sale I added it to my online shopping basket quick as a flash.¬†The cute tie front is the icing on the cake. The material is so soft it feels like a second skin. The only gripe I have with Zara and Mango is those huge papery labels, because even when I snip them out they leave scratchy bits that irritate me. Anyway, a bit of careful work with some nail scissors sorted that out!

In keeping with the cat theme I’m wearing some fabulous new cat eye sunglasses from¬†Amevie. I love the¬†oversized style and blue reflective¬†lenses. They are so¬†light and comfortable that I could almost forget I’m wearing them. I took them on my recent trip to Switzerland and wore them for a day sightseeing in Zurich (there’ll be a post on that¬†soon!).

For each pair of sunglasses sold, Amevie give a pair of eyeglasses to a child in need via their charitable partner, Seva Canada, who has helped more than 4 million people see again.

Amevie is a Canadian lifestyle and sun-care brand that aims¬†to¬†empower¬†people¬†to “love their lives in the sun, worry-free”. The name comes from the latin for “love life”. Sustainability is at the heart of Amevie; the sunglasses are made from bamboo, which can be harvested within¬†four to five years, compared to hardwood trees which require 25 to 70 years of growth.¬†For each pair of sunglasses sold,¬†Amevie¬†give a pair of eyeglasses to a child in need via their charitable partner, Seva Canada,¬†who has helped more than 4 million people see again.¬†The company’s founder,¬†Ana¬†Caracaleanu¬†teamed up with the charity after her¬†mother was diagnosed with advanced cataract, and nearly went blind.

All Amevie sunglasses have CAT 3 polarized 100% UV blocking lenses, high quality hinges and are waterproof.

There are eight styles of sunglasses to choose from (most are unisex) and range in price from $60-$99 USD.¬†All Amevie¬†sunglasses have¬†CAT 3 polarized 100% UV blocking lenses, high quality hinges and are waterproof. Despite the lightness they feel very durable. I’m wearing the Paris design which I would say are the largest style in the range. For reference, I have quite a wide face and these fit a little on the roomy side. If you have more petite features you may be better suited to one of the other styles.¬†The funky¬†Del Mar¬†model, which features reflective blue lenses and natural bamboo arms, fits narrow. I also love the¬†Vegas¬†design – ¬†a classic brown cat eye¬†design which fits all. The sunglasses¬†come with a microfibre pouch, cleaning cloth, foldable case and box.

After taking some photos wearing my white and gold flat sandals I spotted a pair of red wedges in mum’s closet¬†too, so I put them on and we snapped some more.

If you look closely at the photo above you may see the reflection of my photographer; this was my daughter’s first attempt at taking blog photos for me. Not bad for an eight-year old, don’t you think? We spent a long¬†weekend at my mum’s where the¬†weather¬†was glorious. I didn’t have a bag to go with this outfit so I raided her¬†wardrobe and picked out this red one from Dune. After taking some photos wearing my white and gold flat sandals I spotted a pair of red wedges in mum’s closet¬†too so I put them on and we snapped some more. Mum said I could have them because she can only wear flats now. I gave her two dresses and she gave me some shoes…that’s a successful swap!

Do pop over to Amevie and have a look at the different styles…I’d love to hear which are your favourites! It’s link up day so scroll down to share what you’ve been wearing and see last week’s favourite looks!
