I’m certainly enjoying this milder weather, which means Spring is almost here! The daffodils are starting to bloom and the trees are in bud 🙂 I took the opportunity to wear a jacket instead of a coat, which I teamed with a check skirt and biker boots. I bought the skirt on eBay last week for less than £5…another little bargain that’ll be a useful addition to my wardrobe.

Thick tights and chunky boots toughen up the classic check A-line mini skirt, as well as insulate me from any late Winter chills.

The key to wearing a jacket at this time of year is to layer it over a fitted sweater; I wear my rollneck jumpers on repeat, they provide endless outfit options. Thick tights and chunky boots toughen up the classic check A-line mini skirt, as well as insulate me from any late Winter chills. I resisted the urge to add a colourful bag and opted for this studded satchel instead. I’ve had it for years but I’d forgotten all about it until the Match Made in Seven Punk challenge. It matches the studded boots perfectly.

You may recognise the Pom Amsterdam bugs jacket from a previous post when I went to the Bias-Cut.com pop up shop in London. I’d been admiring it from afar for weeks, and as soon as I tried it on I knew I had to have it. I just love everything about it: the fit, the fabric, the gorgeous lining (which I keep forgetting to photograph!)…and of course the bug embellishments. Those are what really sold it to me.

Having good quality classic pieces (albeit with a little twist) make getting dressed a joy. However many times I wear this jacket I’ll never get bored with it. The same goes for the heart tassel earrings, which I bought at the same time.

Do you have favourite items of clothing that always make you feel good?

Match Made in Seven: Punk, Sex Pistols T-shirt

Welcome to the monthly edition of Match Made in Seven! We are a international group of fashion bloggers who meet once a month. One of us chooses a theme in turn, and that can be anything. A book, music, a color, a movie. And then we style an outfit based on that theme. The theme of this month is chosen by Nancy and is: punk. Also take a look at the other bloggers how they have interpreted the theme this month.

Match Made in Seven: Punk, Sex Pistols T-shirt

As a rock chick I thought a punk-inspired look would be a breeze, but it wasn’t as easy as I’d anticipated!

When Nancy emailed to say she’d chosen punk as the group’s first theme I was really pleased. As a rock chick I thought a punk-inspired look would be a breeze, but it wasn’t as easy as I’d anticipated! My initial thought was to add some tartan into my outfit, but I don’t have much of it in my wardrobe. I tried to find a mini skirt so that I could wear it with tights and these biker boots, but tartan skirts are really hard to find, especially in traditional red tartan.

A few months ago I almost bought a tartan bomber jacket on eBay but someone beat me to it (I hate it when that happens!). So instead I settled for a tailored jacket that wasn’t quite what I’d hoped for in terms of fabric quality and fit.

A Sex Pistols T-shirt was included on that list of what not to wear, and being a die-hard rebel, I immediately bought one.

I had a look in some charity shops for a skirt, but to no avail, so I had to rethink my outfit. I cast my mind back to the late 70s for some inspiration. Although I was only a child then, my brother is 11 years older than me and was a big Sex Pistols fan, so the music and fashion of that time made quite an impact on me. He had a Never Mind the B@ll@cks T-shirt back then, in fact it wouldn’t surprise me if he still has it now!

But I bought mine more recently. My prompt was an article telling women what they shouldn’t wear over the age of 40, and it was quite an extensive list. A Sex Pistols T-shirt was included on that list of what not to wear, and being a die-hard rebel, I immediately bought one. Tell me I can’t do something and I’ll do it twice just to prove a point! So two and half years after it’s debut on the blog, it was time for another outing.

This time I teamed it with an old leather skirt and my new faux leather biker boots. They are definitely the most practical footwear for the snowy weather, but they are very squeaky! I hope that fades when I’ve worn them in because you can hear me coming down the corridor at work in them! Not that I’d wear this outfit to work; I probably could without anyone batting an eyelid because pretty much anything goes, but best not to on the days I’m working in children’s TV!

The Modalu satchel was a total bargain – I paid about £15 for it on eBay…and it was new!

To toughen up the look I added more studs and spikes. My Merle O’Grady ring is one of my favourite pieces of jewellery. I coveted it for a long time before it went on sale and I snapped it up. I do have to be careful when I’m wearing it though…it could be used as a weapon! Maybe that’s why I like it 😉 The Modalu satchel was a total bargain – I paid about £15 for it on eBay…and it was new!

Matching yellow jackets, glitter trousers and biker boots

My little girl is not so little now, and just like her mama, is showing a keen interest in fashion! She loves us to wear matching outfits…and to be honest, I do too! This isn’t the first time she’s appeared on the blog – we’ve twinned in gingham tunics and black biker jackets and motif sweaters before. I got her some fabulous clothes and boots for Christmas, including a faux fur leopard print coat which will feature in another post soon.

But today we wanted to wear our (almost) matching yellow jackets, glitter trousers and biker boots. I say almost because my jacket is more of a mustard colour, whereas Isobel’s is a brighter yellow. They’re both faux shearling and lovely and snuggly. We had to size up to a 11-12 for Isobel because the 9-10 was too tight across the back…she’s built like me with broad shoulders.

I teamed my jacket with my Mango skinny glitter jeans, but Isobel doesn’t like jeans so she’s wearing velvet glitter leggings instead. Her bag was actually mine, but as she points out, sharing is caring! I really needed a hat to tame my hair in the strong wind, but Isobel chose her cat ear headband. She’s not a fan of hats at the moment, but I suspect that’ll change as she gets older. I’ll probably lose a few of mine in the years to come!

I’m keeping today’s post short and sweet because it’s been a very busy week and next week will be just as busy. I hope you can pop back for Tuesday’s link up post 🙂
