Pink Culottes and Cold Shoulder Top

It really feels like Autumn is just around the corner now with the evenings drawing in. The main consolation of Summer nearing its end is the sales. Although there’s a lot of tat on the rails, if you have the patience to trawl through them it can pay off. I bought these pink culottes at Marks & Spencer along with the sunshine yellow dress. They were both roughly half price which I was quite happy with…until I went into another M&S store a couple of weeks later and saw the dress reduced to £4.99 and the culottes to £8.49! Don’t you just hate it when that happens? But then I consoled myself with the fact that if I hadn’t bought them when I did I wouldn’t have had them to take to Brittany.

I packed these pink culottes and cold shoulder top because I knew the proportions would work together

Sales frustrations aside, I love these culottes and I know I’ll get plenty of wear from them. The quality is fantastic and they feel much more expensive than even the full price. They make a great alternative to a midi skirt, especially on a breezy day. We took these photos in the ruins of the old church at the end of my dad’s field, which makes a nice change from my back garden. I love doing outfit photos on holiday, but it does require a bit of planning. I packed these pink culottes and cold shoulder top because I knew the proportions would work together (I’ve also worn the top with my metallic culottes).

Pink Culottes and Cold Shoulder Top

I’ve had this top for years, in fact I think I bought it from a Freemans catalogue – that’s going back some! After going out of fashion I stored it away in a suitcase in the loft, but now the cold shoulder trend is back with a vegence and its time has come again! It’s great for taking on holiday because it’s light and doesn’t crease. Plus it goes with almost everything. I added some gold accents with my jewellery and wedge espadrilles, which are also holiday wardrobe go-tos.

As soon as I spotted the bag my heart skipped a beat, especially when I saw it was on sale!

The bag was a holiday treat which I bought on a shopping trip to Paimpol, a lovely little town a short drive from my dad’s. I also bought the jacket I wore in last week’s link up post that afternoon. As soon as I spotted the bag my heart skipped a beat, especially when I saw it was on sale! It cost 44 euros with the discount, which I thought was a bargain. All in all that was a very satisfying shopping trip 🙂

Do you like to shop the sales early? Or do you wait until the end for big discounts and risk your favourites being sold out? If you have a strategy please do share it! Now it’s time to link up 🙂

Oakwood black leather jacket Fluorescent PR Press Day

If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen a few photos from the Fluorescent PR Press Day in London I went to last week. It was a fun afternoon, looking at different products and meeting people. There were some fabulous treatments on offer too – I got my nails done, false eyelashes applied and had my lips coated in glitter!

On the one hand I want to choose clothes and accessories that project my personality and stand out a little, but I also want to be comfortable.

Deciding what to wear to events like this is always a balance between creativity and practicality. On the one hand I want to choose clothes and accessories that project my personality and stand out a little, but I also want to be comfortable. If your feet hurt or something is itchy/too tight/constantly needs adjusting, it can ruin your day. On such occasions I usually start with footwear and build from there.

My black M&S ankle boots with a block heel are comfortable enough to wear all day and have quite a slender shape, so they look good with skirts and trousers. As I was going to be spending almost six hours in total sitting on the train I thought trousers might look crumpled, so I opted for a thick midi skirt with opaque tights instead. The skirt has pockets (extra brownie points!) and hangs nicely, even though it has deep splits. I teamed it with a lightweight cat and mouse motif sweater (previously seen on the blog here and here) and a necklace I bought from Sfera on a trip to Madrid.

It can be difficult to find a coat to wear with a longish, flared skirt like this one – a shorter coat doesn’t look right – so I usually wear it with my leather jacket. It cinches in at the waist and balances out the volume of the skirt. The stretch panels on the sides and the sleeves make it super comfortable. The only pop of colour is the red bag and blue charm, although I did wear a matching blue scarf for travelling as it was a very cold day.

So onto the event: The venue was very easy to get to from Euston – just two tube stops to Oxford Circus, and then a short walk from there. The temptation to veer off into the shops was strong but I resisted! When I arrived I was greeted by the lovely Holly from Fluorescent PR who showed me around the stands.

Almost a week later and I still can’t stop looking at my shiny rose gold nails – I’ve had so many compliments on them.

My eyes were immediately drawn to the stunning glitter bags by SOS15 – such fun and quirky designs. In fact there was glitter and sparkle in abundance because upstairs I had a Calgel chrome manicure thanks to the lovely Izabelle Hammon team. Almost a week later and I still can’t stop looking at my shiny rose gold nails – I’ve had so many compliments on them. While waiting to have my nails done I had false lashes applied by Lash Unlimited which only took a few minutes but made such a difference. The strip lashes can be reused so I’m going to try putting them on myself for a special occasion.

Before it was time to leave I had the Glitter Lips treatment by the lovely Paula from Beauty Boulevard. I have to admit, I did wonder if it would draw too much attention on the train journey home, but I’m so glad I tried it. I’m now totally obsessed with this stuff! The application only took about five minutes but has staying power that has to be seen to be believed. It does not budge one iota. You can drink, eat…or whatever 😉 and it still looks immaculate. There are plenty of colours to choose from. I tried Vintage Pretty, a dusky pink shade, but I saw a few people try the red and it looks AMAZING…like Dorothy’s red shoes in the Wizard of Oz.  Ah, I could get use to being pampered over a glass of prosecco 🙂

What would be your favourite thing to try…chrome nails, glitter lips or false lashes? Let me know your fave and don’t forget to link up your outfits!

Eternal Collection Aurora Crystal Necklace Style With a Smile Link Up

Happy New Year! We made it through the first week of January which is always a dreary time of year for me. The transition from sleeping in and eating with abandon, to getting back to business as usual is quite a gear change – and not one that happens overnight. It’s fair to say that it’s taken a week to regain my equilibrium. From now on we can look forward to more daylight and the shops being full of Easter eggs – it’s happening already!

One thing I am embarking on for 2017 (that definitely doesn’t require deprivation) is a brand new link up!

I don’t really make New Year resolutions for two reasons: mainly because it can set you up for failure if you go off track early on, but also because if it’s important, why wait until the new year? Start when impetus strikes and resolve is strong. January has to be the hardest time to start something that’s going to be a challenge. However, one thing I AM embarking on for 2017 (that definitely doesn’t require deprivation) is a brand new link up! Starting my own blog link up has been on my to-do list for ages, and finally I’ve got my act together. Finding a name wasn’t easy, but as looking good and feeling good go together hand in hand, I decided to call it Style With a Smile. You can add your outfits at the bottom of the post 🙂

I love the elegant design of the Aurora crystal necklace, and how the toggle clasp and heart charms are the focal point.

Now on to what I’m wearing. As unlikely as it may seem, the starting point for this outfit was actually the beautiful crystal necklace from Eternal Collection. You may remember the stunning Akoya pearl necklace that I wore in this post back in October (I’ve worn it lots since then, including on Christmas Day). Well, the lovely team at Eternal have wowed me once again with this elegant Aurora crystal necklace.  It’s in sale at the moment along with many other amazing pieces of jewellery, so if you feel like treating yourself (or someone else) pop over to Eternal for a browse.

The crystals are midnight blue/black with an aurora borealis (AB) coating, which produces an iridescent effect..

I love the elegant design of the Aurora crystal necklace, and how the toggle clasp and heart charms are the focal point. It was only when I came to write this post that I noticed I’d fastened it with the T-bar back to front…and my husband made such an effort to photograph it looking just so! The crystals are midnight blue/black with an aurora borealis (AB) coating, which produces an iridescent effect and looks particularly beautiful when the light catches it.

It would have been easy to just wear the necklace with a black outfit but I was craving something more colourful. Looking through my wardrobe I was drawn to the deep inky tones contrasting with the neutral snake print in this blouse. I think it compliments the necklace well. The Asos mustard trousers provided the punch of colour I needed. They’re surprisingly versatile and I’ve worn them several times before on the blog (with blackpurple and even pink!) The outfit needed another colour accent so I added a burgundy crossbody bag…and has luck would have it, I picked up these shoes in the exact same colour in TKMaxx for £15 a couple of months ago. They are incredibly comfortable with a cushioned insole. The RRP on the label was £110 so I guess I got a good bargain there!

At the last minute I decided to wear the hat, which prompted my daughter to shout from the doorway “You’re a cowgirl mummy, shout YEEHAW, go on DO IT, DO IT!” So, of course I had to do it in order to finish the photos. The  neighbours probably think I’m crazy!

Have you recovered from the festivities? Have you made any resolutions or set yourself any goals for the year ahead? Let me know in the comments…and don’t forget to link up your outfits! 🙂
