After a crazy few months of starting a new job involving a 200 mile round trip commute (not to mention trying to sell a house and buy another) I was well and truly ready for a break. Having been to Brittany several times before I thought I was fully prepared for how changeable the weather can be, but we really did get all seasons in just a few days. Even my dad (who has lived there for several years) was surprised at the ferocity of the wintery storm that greeted us. Although the high winds did claim a few trees (more wood for the fire!) and knock the power out a couple of times we managed to survive without too much inconvenience – a roaring log fire and a few bottles of red wine certainly helped!
By the third day the storm had passed and the sun was shining – and it just happened to be market day. My attention was soon caught by a stall selling hats, and when my dad suggested I try one on I couldn't resist and ended up buying it. In fact it turned out to be a very good purchase because I hardly took it off for the rest of the trip and I know I'll be wearing it for years to come. Wearing something associated with happy memories is so much more enjoyable than something purchased mindlessly on a boredom-induced shopping spree.
Of course we had to make a visit to the beach and luckily the sun stayed out long enough for us to build sand castles and look for shells. As with all holidays it was over too soon but I'm sure we'll be back there before too long – hopefully when it's warm enough for a swim in the sea and a spot of sunbathing!
Thanks for reading. Enjoy the rest of your week xxx
