Whether you live on this side of the Atlantic or the other, I’m sure a lot of you are wondering what the hell just happened and where it all leaves us now. At times like these I find it’s good to just turn the news off and occupy myself doing something else, something constructive. The last eight years (starting with the Brexit referendum) have thrown up some curveballs, we should be used to this turbulence by now. I will never become politically apathetic, but hitting the off button is a form of self-care. When I’m not at work (in a newsroom) I’ll be switching the news off.
Anyway, shall we move on? On Saturday I’m going to see one of my favourite bands – Amyl and the Sniffers. It should be raucous and very sweary, so it’ll let off some steam. I’m not sure what I’ll wear yet, probably my faux leather leggings and Converse. I tend to wear black to gigs, even though I don’t wear it much by day. By contrast, today’s outfit is colourful as usual.
I had no idea that this flower cardigan and flares matched until I saw them side by side. The trousers are by Madcap England, a brand I’ve bought from before. I’ve featured a trouser suit with a similar retro floral pattern a couple of times on the blog. I love the fabric and the fit of those, but these looked very flared on the website so I hesitated in buying them, even though I adore the print. But when they were reduced to £20 and then there was a further 20% discount I couldn’t resist. It turns out that they’re not such a wide flare as I thought, which was a nice surprise. (I didn’t want them to look like part of a fancy dress costume!)
I actually bought a top in this print a while ago, but it’s a different fabric – more of a stretchy swimsuit kind of material with a zip up the front. Because of this, I can’t tuck it in, and left out, it’s too long. Also, the colours are not quite as vibrant. (There is a matching jacket available but it’s cropped so I’m not sure about it.) This is where my new cardigan* comes to the rescue! I couldn’t believe how well they match when I first saw them together! I love trouser suits and having only one half really irritates me so the cardigan has solved that niggle. It’s also lovely and cosy, looks great with jeans and has pockets! The weather is still very mild for November so I’m wearing long cardigans instead of coats. I also ordered this one in grey so I’ll be featuring that soon too.

Emma, thank you for acknowledging what just happened yesterday—I worry that the rest of the world looks at the US and thinks we’re messy AF but it’s somewhat reassuring to know that we’re not alone in what we’re going through. On a happier note, I hope you have the most fantastic time at Amyl and the Sniffers—they are SO GOOD live!

I honestly couldn’t believe my eyes when I read the headlines…it was 2016 all over again. I have no clue what’s going to happen, but it won’t be good. Like you said…what the hell happened?
On a lighter note, this outfit is amazing. I love the print; I love the colors; I love the long cardigan! I can’t believe you didn’t buy them together. They are fab for sure! Thanks so much for the link up!
Indeed, yesterday wasn’t a good start of the day with that news. It’s a weird and scary world. But luckily we have your colours to lift up the spirit! As if the cardigan was designed for those trousers! Great look!
Yes just amazing that outcome isn’t it Emma.
I do like this jacket and wow that it matches your trousers. Have a super week and thanks for hosting the linkup. Jacqui x
Yesterday was quite the surprise when I woke up in the morning!

I woke up in shock and it was not a good day. That is one fabulous cardigan! They match your pants perfectly! Love the vibrant colors and retro vibes of this look. Thank you so much for the feature!

The election outcome yesterday was devastating, it strikes fear into my heart for the US, as well as the other countries. You are a ray of sunshine in your 1960’s print flower power outfit- we need it! I love the pants and long cardigan of the same print on a different size scale, and that it was serendipity that they match. Thanks so much for mentioning me in your favorites this week., and thanks for the link up!
You are looking fabulous. I love these colors on you! Wishing you a great day!

Hi Emma, You think that the sweater was meant to go with those pants! It looks fabulous together and I just love your bright colors you wear. Yes, we’ll either be moving to Europe, or I will have to do the same with the news.. turn it off more often. I want to know what is going on, and I usually read the New York Times for bulletpoints.
I think I wore black for a few days…
I have stopped my Turning Heads Tuesday, so I will be able to pop over here during the week. I found it tough to keep up with this, IG< the shelter, guitar lessons..
take care!
