Style Not Age: Spring Pastels

Style Not Age Spring Pastels, Mango lilac trousers, pink Marks & Spencer pink tie back top

Welcome to April’s installment of the Style Not Age collective! This month it was my turn to choose the theme and I wanted something that would reflect the season; I love this time of year when the blossom is on the trees and flowers are in bloom. With that in mind you might have wondered why I didn’t go with floral print, but that would have been too easy! I like a challange you see, and pastel shades push me ever so slightly out of my comfort zone.

I don’t have a lot of pastels hues in my wardrobe, but I’ve been seeing lots to tempt me. Luckily I bought these lilac trousers a while ago from Mango when they were on sale. I put them aside intending to get them taken up a couple of inches because they are too long even with the high wedges I’m wearing. They are not from a tall range, they’re just really long (I’m 5’8″ for reference).

By wearing a brighter colour on the top half I avoid looking washed out.

Lilac is such a pretty shade, and it pairs well with other pastel shades such as mint, powder blue or lemon. I find wearing pale colours next to my face can be unflattering, so I paired the lilac trousers with a bubblegum pink top. By wearing a brighter colour on the top half I avoid looking washed out. For a less sugary colour palette I could team the trousers with a deep purple or indigo blouse.

The pink top was a fab little bargain from the Marks & Spencer outlet near to wear I work. I love the long tie detail at the back. I can’t remember exactly how much it was but I think it was less than £10. The lilac trousers reminded me about this shoulder bag that I bought years ago when I lived in Nottingham. It’s been in a box in the wardrobe for ages, but I think it’s perfect for Spring so you’ll probably be seeing it again before too long.

I added some extra pink with my sunglasses and jewellery. A friend gave me the earrings many years ago and I made the rose quartz bracelet myself. If you’re a bit apprehensive about wearing pastel shades, one easy way to tap into the trend is with accessories…and nail polish too!
