It’s funny really, because although our trip to Spain had been booked for a year we were fully expecting it to be cancelled. Then at the last minute, the rules of visiting amber list countries changed and it was all systems go. Finding a new cat sitter, booking Covid tests and ensuring we had all the correct paperwork was stressful. However, once we arrived we realised just how much we needed a holiday. We usually go abroad twice a year, so no holidays for almost two years felt stifling at times.
It’s the uncertainty that I find stressful; I either want to book a holiday and go, or not even contemplate it. I suppose emerging from lockdown and all the restrictions was never going to be easy. We may have to return to some of those restrictions come autumn, so I feel very grateful for this trip!
I mentioned last week that I’d treated myself to a few new things for this holiday, including the bright orange maxi dress. However, I bought this black diamante embellished jumpsuit for my trip to Abu Dhabi three years ago and it has proved to be a brilliant addition to my holiday wardrobe. It’s made from a lovely slinky, stretchy fabric that is incredibly comfortable.
The embellished neckline makes it an easy piece to throw on for evening. without having to think about accessories. It would look great with strappy sandals but I can’t do heels on holiday – or at any time really…I even managed to fall over in flat sandals so heels are definitely out of the question! These silver FitFlops are the latest addition to my growing collection. I love the supportive footbed and arch support – something I need as I can’t use my orthotic insoles in sandals.
I wasn’t planning to wear my hair up, but it went a bit fluffy due to the heat. Whenever it’s hot I just want to tie it back to get it off my neck. I’m well overdue a haircut now and I can’t wait to get it trimmed and thinned out at the sides. I bought a visor for this holiday because it’s hard to lean back on a sunbed with a wide brim hat (first world problems, I know!). It actually proved to be good decision because it was quite windy in the afternoons…I don’t think my hat would have stayed on.
The downside is that the sun bleached my hair on the crown and dried my scalp out…I should have used sunscreen on my parting! As my hair was pulled back I chose some big earrings for maximum impact. A gold disc ring and sparkly cuff bracelet finished off the look. Jumpsuits and maxi dresses are my go-to holiday outfits: just add sandals, bag and jewellery…time to party!
