Another bad hair day and another hat! If you read Sunday’s post you’ll know all about the mishap I had with my straighteners. After a couple of days fretting about it (I actually lost sleep over it!) I managed to get an appointment at a local salon this morning. A very lovely and sympathetic stylist applied a deep conditioning mask (the head massage definitely de-stressed me) and trimmed a lot of the damaged hair off. I still have some dry, frizzy bits but it’s so much better than it was. It’s funny how hair makes such a big difference to how we feel, well it does me anyway. Some might think that’s superficial, but we wear it 24/7 so obviously it’s going to affect our confidence.
Thank you to everyone who left kind and helpful comments, I really appreciate them. And I will continue to wear hats – good or bad hair day! I think hats look better on me when my hair is shorter anyway. Fedoras and peaked caps are my favourite hat styles, and when I like something I buy it in multiple colours. I picked up this berry-toned hat on eBay a couple of years ago. It’s a great alternative to black and an easy colour to wear.
I like to wear hats that add balance to an outfit, and this style seems to work well with the full skirt. FitFlop sock boots with a jacquard maxi skirt might sound like an odd combination, but sporty footwear is now (thankfully) part of mainstream fashion, and my feet couldn’t be happier 🙂
These FitFlop Rapid sock boots are THE most comfortable footwear ever thanks to the Microwobbleboard midsoles. The nylon mix stretch knit uppers mean they’re fantastic for bunion sufferers like me. After the Christmas party fiasco where I wore heels and spent the evening in agony I’m all about comfort now. Wearing them with tights in the same colour avoids a hard line at the cuff. It also helps that the skirt has predominantly deep red tones around the hem which also creates a blended look.
I took a little bit of inspiration from another blogger for this look (as I did with the green coat and red boots). This time Greet, aka Journey of a Stylist, is my inspiration. She puts together the most beautiful and colourful outfits (often with trainers), seemlessly blending comfort with feminine details. Greet is one of my style icons and I would absolutely LOVE to have a little peek into her wardrobe(s), what fun that would be!
I’ve got a bit of a tweed/bouclé obsession going on right now and had been looking for a chic gold chain handle bag. I love Kurt Geiger bags but they’re not exactly cheap, so when I found this one on sale at Shoeaholics with an extra 20% discount I quickly snapped it up. They seem to hold their value on eBay really well, which confirms what a fantastic bargain I bagged 😉
The full skirt called for a fitted top to define the waist. This old one from Kaliko has proved to be such good value for money on a pay per wear basis. It was quite a mild day so I didn’t need a jacket for the photos, but a cropped faux suede moto jacket would be a good option for adding another layer without creating bulk or losing definition around the waist.

Thanks Ruth! xx
I would never have imagined those Fitflops would work so well with the skirt, you are right with matching the tights, it makes a nice line. I saw a similar handbag, picked it up, put it back down, now I regret that a little bit! I love the proportions of this outfit.
That skirt! Wow, so pretty on you and I really love the colors . The booties are cute and I probably would have picked a red too! Im sorry to hear about the hair woes, I know it can make us feel bad some days! I love the hat, you do look fab in hats! The ruched top is beautiful on you, shows of your lovely figure and I am loving that bag, the tweed!
Have a wonderful week!

Sorry to hear about the hair issue – good thing you rock a hat! Love the skirt. Good tip about pairing the Fitflops with same colour of tights!
Hi, Emma,
I am so sorry to hear about your hair event!! Ugh. Hair is the bane of our existence at times, isn’t it?
But this outfit is adorable and you look very cute in your red sock booties! Love the jacquard skirt–the colors are beautiful!
Have a wonderful week,
xx Darlene
Love your clutch bag Emma and that skirt matches fabulously with it xx
Oh no, Emma, sorry to hear you had a bad hair experience, but glad that you’re getting it sorted out. A hat is always a good stopgap, and you look fantastic regardless!

Love that skirt so much and that bag! So beautiful!
This is great how we can inspire each other. There are many looks that I would never think off by myself, but if I can see it on picture, I understand immediately how it can work. This is one of those looks. I would never think of using such shoes and look perfect it is. Love it!

Pretty outfit! Totally loving the red & black colors with the cute hat. The shoes absolutely complete this outfit with the perfect unique touch!
That skirt is beautiful and the boots add a cool twist! Being upset about your hair is not at all superficial. Like you said, we wear it 24/7 and as such it’s a major part of our identity. I’m glad that you found a stylist to help you with it so that you feel at least a little better.
