Well, the heatwave is over and now it’s mostly rainy and overcast. I wanted it to last a bit longer but I know not everyone enjoys the hot weather. It’s still warm though, so that’s some consolation. The unexpected heat had me digging out my summer clothes again, and I realised I’d never worn this gingham two piece set together. I have featured the skirt on the blog before, but I paired it with a graphic vest top for the Style Not Age Not Square With Gingham challenge.
The fabric is very light and airy, ideal for the hot weather. The top was a bit difficult to get on and off though – not helped by me putting it on back to front at first! I love the ruffles on the sleeves but they are a bit snug…and you know what it’s like when you’re hot and sweaty, everything just clings. When I got home from work and tried to take it off I momentarily got stuck with it half off! Ah, the panic of getting trapped in clothing!
The other odd thing about this gingham two piece set is the ridiculously long waist ties on the skirt. They are fixed either side so there’s no way of removing them. They’re so long I can wrap them around and cross them over. I wasn’t sure what to do with them, but I tied them at the back as it looks less fussy. I added gold and pearl jewellery, plus my big fuchsia Yaa Yaa London ring. My white reversible faux leather bag and very old sandals completed the look.

I do not have any gingham in my closet but I feel like it’s a pretty summer print. Ha ha: I hate getting stuck in my clothes, it has happened to me before!

Emma, what a fun gingham set! I love the bright pink and the frilly sleeves, too. But I hear you about getting trapped in your clothes on a hot day. Ugh. I love how bright and cheerful this outfit is. You look fabulous as always, my friend!

I usually imagine gingham clothes, two pieces or dresses mostly, as ideal for a picnic date or an outdoor trip, but you gave it a lovely touch of elegance and showed us how to wear it in a more elevated way. Love it! <3

What a fun set! I think while these would be great as separates too they work so well together, it looks like a dress! Shame the top is a bit tricky, as it looks so lovely on you here 🙂
