Welcome to the monthly edition of Match Made in Seven! We are an international group of fashion bloggers who meet once a month. One of us chooses a theme in turn, and that can be anything. A book, music, a color, a movie – and then we style an outfit based on that theme. This month it was my turn to choose, and I decided to push us all way out of our comfort zones with neon!
You’ve probably seen neon appearing in the shops again recently, and also in street style photos. Love it or loathe it, it’s back. Only this time it’s not so “in your face” as the 80s. I remember wearing mismatched neon towelling socks as a child. The 80s was not a good decade for fashion!
But if you shudder at the thought of wearing neon, fear not. You don’t have to dress head to toe in retina-scorching fluorescent shades. Just a few neon accessories teamed with a neutral outfit can make an impact. Me, I’m more a “go hard or go home” kinda gal. Well, strictly speaking I was at home when we took these photos, but you get my drift 😉
I searched high and low for the perfect neon roll neck jumper and found exactly what I wanted at New Look. I ordered a size 10 and it was a bit snug, so I sized up to a 12 which fits more comfortably. Sometimes ribbed knits can size small. Partly because I’m indecisive (and also because they were on sale) I also ordered it in pink, which I’ll feature very soon in another post.
SHOP THE LOOK
The inspiration for this outfit actually came from Pinterest (I have a board dedicated to neon). My M&S culottes are a couple of years old now, but I’ve linked to some alternatives in the widget. I was going to add a blue bag (just like the Pinterest outfit) but on second thoughts it was a bit too much. Instead I opted for this fun flamingo bag from Skinny Dip. It’s not very practical on account of the shape, and it’s virtually impossible to get into it. But the novelty factor more than makes up for all that.
The neon print of the shoes bring the pink and yellow together nicely. I used to wear these shoes a lot for work, but I find them a bit too hard on my feet now to wear all day.
I added some bright pink earrings and hot pink lipstick to complete the look!

Oh I knew you would just go for it for this Emma. Perfect. I really like that roll neck. Fab colour. I may even branch out into more neon now after seeing this.
Emma,
OMG! You styled this beautifully, as I knew you would! I love the pink culottes with the yellow sweater. And the earrings, shoes, and bag are perfect!
Well done, my friend!
