It’s hard to believe we’re almost halfway through August already…and that Summer is nearly over *sob*. This time of year feels a little stagnant; we’re at the end of the Summer sales but there’s not much new season stock in. The weather is mild but cloudy and a bit rainy…all of which can lead to a bit of a slump in motivation. And that’s exactly how I’ve felt lately, especially as I’ve been living out of a suitcase for two weeks out of the last three. So I suppose it’s fitting that everything in this outfit is old! That’s not to say I haven’t been shopping the sales…but that’s for another post (or two!).
When I bought these mustard peg leg trousers I did wonder how much wear I’d get out of them, but they’re surprisingly versatile. In fact mustard seems to go with lots of colours: I’ve worn them with purple, black, burgundy and even pink! This is the first time I’ve paired them with blue though. I love the contrast between the mustard trousers and cobalt top, so much so that I added a bright blue bag and sunglasses too!
SHOP THE LOOK
I chose a long necklace to counteract the horizontal line of the top where the jersey fabric joins the sheer section. Otherwise it can have the effect of looking a bit blocky. It’s just a shame I didn’t realise that one of those annoying hanging loops was dangling…why do they have to put them in every garment?! I probably walked around all day like that…at least you can’t see it with my jacket on! This Zara jacket has to be one of my most worn items. I bought it when Isobel was a baby and it’s still going strong. I’ll be bereft when it’s worn out because I can’t find another one like it. Everyone needs a navy blazer in their wardrobe, they go with almost everything.
I’ve worn this blue H&M top lots over the years too. It’s probably as old as the jacket, and fortunately I had the good sense to buy it in black as well. When I find something I love I try to buy it in several colours – I have these Asos peg leg trousers in black, navy, brown, purple and pale blue, in addition to these mustard ones! I even have these M&S sandals in another colourway…I don’t do things by half! But all of these have been staples of my working wardrobe and save me time when I need to get ready quickly (which is most of the time). We all need clothes that make life a bit easier don’t we?

The only shade of yellow that I like is mustard so I love the pants! They’re perfect with the cobalt blue. I’m with you…this time of year is just sort of blah; summer is winding down, but it’s hard to be excited about Fall because it’s so hot and humid outside.

Hi Emma!
I love this color combination on you! So pretty, and I am a fan of mustard and other yellow shades. I love the necklace and the longer length looks great with the blazer. I have done some Fall shopping already but yes, it is very hot here so Im still in the summer mindset.
Have a great day!

What a super outfit, I love the contrast and might have to copy it! Aren’t those hanging loops annoying! I tend to cut them out as this always seems to happen to me. Thanks for hosting Emma. Jacqui Mummabstylish

The trousers are so on trend right now! Love this Mustard colour. I would never have thought to pair with the Blue colour but it looks really good together xx
Lovely color combination! Just love the sheer dotty shoulders of your top.
Normally I end up pairing mustard yellow with navy or grey, but I love how it looks with cobalt! Great color combination!
Such a vibrant color combo, Emma! I love this outfit for transition from summer to fall!

Love the combination of mustard and cobalt. I wouldn’t have thought to pair them. Very pretty!
Emma, I love both of those colors but haven’t thought to put them together. That combo is smashing on you! And the bag just pulls it all together. Nicely done! Thanks for the inspiration.

I could have sworn I left a comment here last night…but maybe I just dreamed it? I definitely need a little blogging break! Anyway, what I dream said was: I love this color combo! My mother was one for buying things she liked in every different color – especially summer sandals. Which she rarely wore, so…
Hey, thanks for including FashionSchlub (aka me)in your favorite looks of last week!
