Welcome to this month’s Stylish Monday link up! I have to admit that my heart sank a little when I saw the theme was “Summer Whites”; I hardly ever wear white so this was never going to be an easy challenge for me. I just find it very high maintenance trying to keep it clean and prevent it going grey in the wash. The only item I could think of in my wardrobe was a white shirt, but then I forgot to take it to my mum’s so I needed a plan B! A trawl of the village charity shops only turned up a sleeveless white embroidered shirt, which fit the theme but didn’t exactly inspire me. But I bought it anyway as it was only £2.
Then as if by magic my mum came to the rescue with these white linen trousers. They fit perfectly, and even better, she said I could keep them 🙂 Ok, so I may be coming round to wearing white after all! Luckily I had packed my white flat sandals, striped T-shirt and this long blue cardigan, which I’ve had for well over 15 years but only just started wearing it! I’m so naughty for doing that; I don’t know why it takes me so long to wear some items of clothing. Like the denim jacket that I upcycled, it had been in the charity shop pile a number of times but I just couldn’t part with it…have I told you before that I’m a serious clothes hoarder? 😉
Strange as it as, I’ve worn it almost everyday for the last week and a half. It’s very lightweight unlike most of my other long cardigans, so it’s ideal for Summer evenings. A kimono would also work well over a T-shirt and trousers. Wearing a longer layer over white trousers is sometimes necessary if the fabric is a bit see-through!
Mum came up trumps again with this handbag, which apparently I bought for her years ago, but I have no recollection of! Anyway, it finishes off the outfit rather nicely (but I didn’t keep that too!). After approaching this month’s theme with trepidation I think I’ve found my preferred colour to wear with white. Maybe this won’t be the last time you see me wearing Summer Whites!

Thanks Darlene! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed wearing white after my initial trepidation!

Thanks so much Jess!
Emma, this is such a great outfit, too, even after you were unsure of the whites! The trousers look amazing on you. I love that cute tie front top. And that cardigan is such a wonderful shade of cobalt and the long style is perfection. Also, how cool is your chunky bracelet. Sometimes these style challenges really force us to come up with something awesome! I think some of my favorite outfits I have ever created came from the toughest style challenges.

Thanks so much Shelbee! My mum really came to the rescue on this challenge! I will definitely wear the trousers over the Summer and take them on holiday with me…the real challenge will be to keep them clean with my daughter around!
Love your summer whites! White and blue is such a pretty combo! You look fabulous!

Thank you Samantha!
I’m so glad you are using pieces that you’ve had for awhile. sometimes it seems like we “need” to buy things to stay current, when we can just reimagine what we already own. I’m wearing white jeans in my link–I hope you can enjoy your new linen trousers!
Thanks Kimberly! Yes, I do try not to buy new things just for a challenge – unless I know I’ll wear it again and again. I already have so many clothes!
Girl you look so fabulous! Rocking every picture!

Thanks so much Grace! I’ll definitely be popping over to link up!
Interesting that you also have barely any white pieces. It’s the same with Nancy and me. I’m wondering whether it’s a European thing or because we are all brunettes? Just curious.
I think you may be right Nicole – I’ve noticed that Americans wear white jeans much more than Brits. That could be down to the lousy weather we get!
Love that shade of blue on you! It is so pretty!!!!!
Thank you Stephanie!
Well good find from your mom because those pants are amazing on you!!

ABSOLUTEly love this outfit, Emma! The blue cardie is divine. I really need to find some like it (I’ve been looking for a little while actually). I love them for the summer.

Thanks Suzy! I always need a thin layer for Summer evenings – my husband jokes about me feeling cold while he’s sunbathing with his shirt off!
A pair of chic white trousers will definitely keep your wardrobe fresh all spring and summer long! I love how you paired them with the blue striped top for a summery look!

Emma,
You always look so fabulous when we do collaborations together!
Your mother to the rescue with her white linen pants!
I wear a lot of white and it’s probable because Atlanta is in the south where the summers are hot and the winters are tolerable.
See you in July!
Hugs,
Robin
