With the temperature hitting the 30s in parts of the UK over the last few days, flaming June has lived up to its reputation. We don’t often have to dress for the heat, and air con is a luxury rather than the norm, so a heatwave sends us into a literal meltdown.
As you might have guessed, I’m not actually in the UK at the moment. I’m in Cape Verde – Boa Vista to be precise – a group of islands in the Atlantic off the coast of West Africa. Astonishingly, it’s not quite as hot here as it has been back home! But that’s a good thing. And we have the beach and the pool to cool off in. Well, I wouldn’t attempt to swim in the sea because the waves are quite big and I’m a terrible swimmer. I’ll stick to the pool with a swim up bar!
I don’t like walking around in just swimwear when I’m on holiday, unless it’s going from sun lounger to the pool. I prefer to throw on a cover up, and this leopard print tunic adds instant glamour. I’ve had it a number of years now but it’s still a firm favourite. It came with a black jersey column dress to wear underneath it, but it’s too hot for that. A big floppy hat and shades are also my beach holiday essentials…you really don’t need much else to feel like you’ve made an effort, even when it’s baking hot.
