It was my turn to choose a theme for this month’s Thrifty Six challenge, and I was quite ambitious with this one! After trying to think of something different to the other themes we’ve done, the idea of “Inspired by Gucci” came from Pinterest. (I have a board dedicated solely to Gucci.) The algorithm certainly seems to know my tastes in fashion! The bold patterns and rich, luxurious fabrics such as velvet and tweed are definitely my style. And they are perfect for autumn too.
My outfit is based on a look from the A/W 2016 collection, but a toned down version. I could have pushed the boat out more with bolder pattern clashes. However, we shot these photos after work so I didn’t want to go too crazy. I’m so bored of taking outfit photos in my garden so I take every opportunity for a change of scenery! Big bow blouses and men’s ties feature a lot at Gucci, as do oversized, retro style sunglasses. I especially like the 70s references.
I bought both the shirt and velvet jacket from charity shops. The Hawes & Curtis shirt was one of three, all in the same style but different patterns. I paid just over £10 for the lot. I loved them so much that I ended up buying more from the website. I’ve bought several velvet jackets from charity shops; they’re always good options for this time of year.
Although the trousers weren’t preloved, they were definitely thrifty, costing less than £10 from the M&S outlet shop. The snake print lace up shoes add another pattern to the mix, and the block heel is in keeping with the 70s vibe. I have a few pairs of designer sunglasses (from TK Maxx), but sadly none from Gucci. I hope one day to rectify that! But in the meantime, these cheap ones from Asos do the job. The bag picks out the orange on the paisley print of the blouse and adds a bright colour to the outfit.
My budget might not allow for designer splurges, but it’s not difficult to capture the Gucci aesthetic on a shoestring. Mixing luxurious fabrics, textures and prints is key. Think heritage prints (check and equestrian motifs), vibrant colours like burgundy and emerald green, wide leg trousers and bold florals.

“I had to Google ‘Gucci Inspired’ to figure out what to style, and what I found was super fun and eclectic. I wouldn’t say my crew was as enthusiastic about the prompt, but I give them kudos for joining in. However, I did cheat because not everything was thrifted. But the headscarf, shoes, purse, and t-shirt were. But hey, I’ve had that jacket for over 15 years, so that counts for something.”

“I do not, and probably never will, own anything from Gucci, so I did a little research into what Gucci showcased for their 2025 Fall/Winter collection. What caught my eye was the bright color combinations and use of statement gold jewelry. I saw this runway photo in Elle magazine and used it as the inspiration for my interpretation based on the thrifted green pants from Eloquii. Wearing a boldly colorblocked outfit is a departure from my usual style but I did like how it turned out! The layered necklaces and leopard print flats definitely brought some ‘feels like me’ energy to the look.”

“I also was befuddled by this prompt and had to Google search “Gucci inspired outfits”. What I found intrigued me. The brand is known for eclectic mixing of prints and patterns including dark florals, animal prints, and the classic Gucci stripes. The first outfit I styled included green striped trousers and black loafers until I realized that none of it was thrifted!
So back to the drawing board I went and came up with this Gucci inspired combination of a satin leopard motif blouse layered beneath a strapless dark floral dress (both items were thrift store purchases). I added a homemade wrap crafted from two old scarfs in leopard print and stripes and accessorized with striped tights, tall black boots, a wide black belt, a tan messenger hat, and leopard earrings found at a flea market. While it’s not my current style aesthetic, I am pleased with my work on this one!”

“The horse-bit is Gucci’s most enduring and iconic emblem—a tribute to equestrian elegance that’s galloped through fashion since the 1950s.
This dress combines the legendary horse-bit with the unmistakable red and green colours of Gucci, set against black for maximum impact.
However, it’s definitely not a Gucci dress; I believe it dates back to the 90’s when it was very shoddily handmade by someone using this striking Gucci-inspired fabric.
I picked it up on eBay with raw edges around the neck, arms and hem; I’ve fixed it with black satin bias-binding and slightly re-tailor it for a perfect fit.
It may not be the real thing but it’s a great winter pinafore and it’s definitely a conversation piece…”

“I knew immediately what I wanted to show for the Gucci-inspired theme. I just had to dig through the archives because I no longer have this skirt. Never worn it, bought it on Vinted. But the elastic waistband was so tight I looked like I was seven months pregnant…and that at my age, lol. But this skirt immediately reminded me of the Gucci print, even the color. If I still had the skirt, I would have styled it with dark green for this theme!”

I absolutely love the way you interpreted this prompt. The mix of patterns and the rich color palette really capture the essence of Gucci without the price tag! I have a few velvet blazers as well and they really are perfect for this season. All of mine were thrifted, too! This is such a marvelous outfit from head to toe! Well done, Emma.
