My go-to work outfit is a colourful trouser suit; they’re comfortable, smart and don’t require a lot of styling. I have certain formulas and colour combinations that make getting ready quick and easy. Despite a wardrobe full of trouser suits, I didn’t have one in a yellow tone. So when Sumissura invited me to customise a suit to review I was very excited. The whole process allows you customise every aspect down to the smallest detail, it’s simply brilliant.
The first step in designing my Sumissura made to measure trouser suit was selecting the fabric. Now, there were a lot of materials and colours to choose from – tweed, cord, velvet, jacquard, wool, linen – there’s something for every season. I was really tempted to go for velvet, but in the end I chose a 4-way stretch fabric that will work all year round.
Pretty much everything is customisable – type and number of buttons, style of collar and pockets, side or centre vents, belt loops etc. Trousers can be made slim fit, wide leg, high or medium rise, with or without turn ups. Plus, you can also select the jacket lining and have your initials embroidered inside, which I did. The website makes it easy to see how your suit will look, and there are really useful video guides on how to measure yourself. It takes two weeks to make the suit, which is pretty impressive given the amount of detail that goes into it. Sumissura’s mission is about celebrating individuality, rather than trying to fit into industry standards and following trends. Designing your clothes means they work for you and your lifestyle, and that’s empowering.
Given what you can expect to pay for a good quality off the peg suit, I think the price point is fantastic. Depending on what fabric you choose and any extras such as custom lining and having your initials added, the price for a trouser suit is £199-£249. Sumissura doesn’t just make suits though; you can also customise other garments such as coats, skirt, dresses and jeans. I bet we’ve all compromised on something when buying clothes because we can’t find the exact thing we want. Customising your clothes down to the last detail means you get exactly what you want. Now that’s something I could get used to!
