I’ve featured leopard print a lot lately, so in the interest of balance I thought I’d wear a bit of snake print. When I pulled out the leopard print skirt for the Style Not Age August theme I also rediscovered this old H&M one. It’s funny really because I used to wear pencil skirts a lot for work, and then I totally lost interest in them. The new season has revived my love for them, particularly the stretchy variety!
This outfit is actually very similar to the Wild About Animal Print look, although this time I chose a top with sleeves that fit under a coat or jacket. The snakeprint skirt, statement sleeves and red coat is a simple but effective formula that’s both classic and on trend. The flared sleeves of the top balance out the close-fitting skirt, while the black tights and boots have a leg-lengthening effect. The coat is a nice length that works well with knee length dresses and skirts. Nothing in this outfit is new, in fact most of it is years old. Rediscovering old pieces can be just as gratifying as buying new ones π
Wearing a pencil skirt and a top with flared or ruffled sleeves also works for warmer weather if you swap boots for mules as I did here. The weather in the UK is very changeable at the moment so it’s tights and boots one day, T-shirts and sandals the next! Yesterday I went to London (you may have seen why on Instagram stories!) and I definitely had one too many layers on. Catching a very early train meant I needed a sweater and a jacket, but it was in the low 20s in London by the time I arrived. My goodness the tube was hot! Trying to take a jumper off on a bumpy and crowded Northern line train required every bit of my core strength! I’ll be sharing more about my fun-packed day in South London soon π
