Dressing for adventure in the great outdoors

I’ve lived in Cheshire for five and a half years now, but still have so much exploring to do. We often say we’ll go on family walks at weekends, yet somehow we never seem to get our acts together and actually do it. Would you believe that this location is less than a mile away from my house as the crow flies, but I’d never taken a walk down here before? Now I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner!

My new Berghaus jacket and North Face fleece make dressing for adventure in the great outdoors a joy 🙂

Well, part of the reason was not having the appropriate clothing and footwear (as well as a lack of organisation!). As a bit of a fashion magpie (always drawn to the sparkly, shiny things) I’ve often struggled to appreciate functional, practical clothing…until recently that is. But as you can see I’m now ready to ramble and loving it! My new women’s Berghaus waterproof jacket and women’s North Face fleece make dressing for adventure in the great outdoors a joy 🙂

I’ve never owned a women’s waterproof jacket before, and now I don’t know how I’ve managed without one! Granted it was a gloriously sunny day when we shot these photos, but I’ve been caught out on the school run enough times to realise that everyone should have one! This jacket is so light, making it easy to roll up and pop into your bag or rucksack – perfect for both commuting and countryside walks. The hood and cuffs are adjustable, plus it’s highly breathable. In addition to Berghaus, Blacks stock a wide range of waterproof jackets from different brands.

The horse in the field behind obviously wanted to steal the limelight and had a good roll, accompanied by some very contented grunting noises which had us in stitches!

The fleece layers perfectly with the waterproof jacket, creating an outfit ready to cope with any weather.

Having a warm layer underneath a thin waterproof jacket is essential on hikes and rambles. I think I may have been unfairly prejudiced against fleeces on account of seeing so many poor quality ones. But when I put this North Face women’s fleece on I really didn’t want to take it off; it’s so soft and warm. It’s made from recycled materials to create sustainable insulation.

I’m all for borrowing clothes from the boys, but a women’s fleece will fit better and layer perfectly under a waterproof jacket. I now have an outfit ready to cope with any weather. Blacks have some great discounts on fleeces and waterproof jackets at the moment, so if you’re thinking of investing in some good quality outdoor clothing now’s the time to grab a bargain!

You can’t go on a walk at this time of year without a hat…at least I can’t! I need one to keep my head warm and stop my hair from blowing in my face. I’m loving this Children in Need hat that just so happens to be in the colour of the season. The Countryfile Ramble Bobble Hat has been produced to support the BBC Children in Need 2018 Appeal, with 50% of the sales going to help children who need help around the UK. They cost just £7 which I think is a real bargain! We love Pudsey Bear in our house, and have lots of Children in Need merchandise…so I had to feature him and his girlfriend Blush Bear in the photos 🙂

Do you love to get outdoors for a ramble or a hike?

  1. You look so comfortable and I love this cozy athleisure look. That yellow beanie just steals the show, tho! I love the pom on top!

  2. I *really* need to up my cold weather gear game! I never seem to have the appropriate gear for different weather conditions. You’ve inspired me to take a look at some real cold (and rainy!) weather items!
