It’s the end of the month, which means it’s time for the Style Not Age July challenge! Hilda chose this month’s theme of “Not Square with Gingham”. I’ve got to admit that it’s not a print I wear a lot…not sure why because I do like it. I actually bought this skirt in the Zara end of Summer sale about this time last year, along with a matching top and the one I’m wearing here.
The skirt is very light and comfortable, with a half-elasticated waistband. The one thing that slightly annoys be about some Zara skirts and trousers is the overly long attached belts. I spent ages faffing around with the belt on this skirt – wrapped around once left too much dangling, but it wasn’t quite long enough to go around twice. In the end I settled for a side bow.
SHOP THE LOOK
To toughen up the gingham I paired the skirt with a rocker-style vest top. Your eyes do not deceive you – it has shoulder pads! Not that I need them with my broad shouders, but I like the structure it gives to the look. Delicate sandals just wouldn’t have looked right with an edgy top, and as luck would have it I’d recently bought these white mules in the River Island sale. I’d be looking for some faux leather white mules for months, and finally scored these for just £15!
I first spotted them on my lunch break when I was working in Leeds, but they only had a size 7, which were slightly too small. So I went on the River Island website while still in the shop and found them in a size 8…bingo! I love the stacked cone heel and they are so comfortable.
A big thank you to Isobel for taking these photos…she’s a very keen blog assistant and apprentice photographer!

Love the look Emma, quite enjoyed this task too! Still wish I’d managed to be a dress though! Happy Monday. Jacqui Mummabstylish
I love how you’ve rocked gingham Emma. I wouldn’t have put the top and skirt together, but this works really well, especially with these fab shoes. Full marks!

Love how you styled this skirt casually with the statement tee and white booties! Built in belts drive me crazy sometimes, but I love how you did a side bow with it! Very cute!
