Some evenings, staying in makes more sense. Maybe you’re worn out from the week. Perhaps you can’t be bothered with small talk or queues out in town. Or maybe you want the sofa to yourself, a proper brew in hand and no need to share the remote.
Whatever the reason, there’s nothing wrong with flying solo. In fact, a night on your own can be one of the best ways to reset. With no pressure or plans, you’re free to do whatever you feel like. Here are some ideas to inspire you.
Not all games require a crowd, meaning you can have every bit as much fun on your own. For a game you can dip in and out of, online bingo is a great shout – it’s easy to get into and there’s a bit of buzz. Plus, it gives your brain something to chew on that isn’t emails or bills. If that’s not your thing, go for a simple option like a puzzle app or a game you can play by yourself. The point is to keep it low effort but still entertaining.

Cooking for yourself doesn’t have to be boring. Forget the sad microwave meals or dry toast. Look up a few dinner recipes for one and choose something warm, easy and satisfying. Think one-pan pasta or even a full English at dinner time.
You’re not cooking to impress anyone, so choose what you fancy and keep the washing-up low. Stick on some music or a podcast and enjoy eating at your own pace. No awkward table chat, just great food and peace.

It doesn’t take a fancy salon or a long list of products to unwind. There are loads of easy DIY spa ideas you can try at home. Run a bath, chuck in a bath bomb, light a candle and take your time.
After that, put on a face mask or a slather of moisturiser and get into your comfiest pyjamas. The experience doesn’t have to be Instagram-worthy – it’s about feeling good. Even 20 minutes of proper switch-off time can make a difference when your brain’s been on the go all week.
You don’t have to go out or be busy to feel like you’ve made the most of an evening. A solo night in is a chance to breathe, rest and do whatever works for you.
No expectations or performance. Just you, in your own space, doing things that make you feel a bit more human. And sometimes, that’s the best way to end the week.
One time, my husband was talking to my daughter about what would happen to me when he was gone. She told him, “Don’t you know how much Mom enjoys being alone?” Now, I don’t want that to be a permanent thing, but I do like being alone. I’m trying to work up the courage to take a road trip all by myself. I also want to come to the UK by myself later this year. We’ll see if either happens. Thanks for the tips, Emma.

A home spa session is one of my favorite go-to ideas for a cozy night. A relaxing shower or bath paired with a cooling face mask is particularly appealing to me.
