It’s been a while since I last wore a dress – September according to the blog archives. It’s not quite warm enough for bare legs and sandals yet, but with a few styling tweaks it’s easy to adapt this burgundy lace maxi dress for cooler temperatures. Like my other dresses from Izabel, this one fits perfectly (I’m wearing my usual size 10). And it has pockets!
Burgundy was THE colour of autumn/winter, but it can be adapted for spring/summer too. The key is to incorporate lighter textures and mix in colours more traditionally associated with spring, such as pale blue and pink. That’s how I plan to wear this dress* on holiday next month when I can finally show off my new remodelled foot in sandals! It’ll be my first bunion-free holiday for many years!
For now though, my toes are cocooned in boots, which happen to be in the exact same shade as the dress. I knew I had some burgundy wedge boots somewhere but locating them was a challenge. I managed to find them after an extensive search under the beds. Turns out I’d never even worn them before! They were very cheap from a mail order catalogue years ago, but they’re perfect for this burgundy lace maxi dress.
The high waistband and flared style requires a cropped jacket to maintain the proportions of the dress. I chose my brown cord jacket because the buttons pick up on the gold bag. I could style this dress in more of a boho style with cowboy boots and a denim jacket or kimono/duster.
Apologies for this post being a day later than scheduled. It’s been quite a full-on week. I finally made a start on clearing mum’s bungalow as the legal stuff has now been processed. There’s so much to do, including tackling the garden, but at least I’ve made a start. Baby steps.
