Craving Crochet – August’s Style Not Age

Craving Crochet - August's Style Not Age, The Chain Designs

Happy Monday! I hope you had a lovely weekend. It’s a Bank Holiday here in the UK so it’s technically a three-day weekend. Not that it makes much difference to me as a freelancer! It’s hard to believe that it will officially be autumn at the end of the week; the summer holidays have flown by. Quite fittingly, I’ve chosen an outfit comprised of autumnal colours for August’s Style Not Age prompt of “Craving Crochet”.

The traditional granny square pattern appeals to my love of 70s retro styling

Adding a crocheted vest over a blouse or T-shirt is a great transitional styling trick. The extra layer provides just enough warmth without the bulk of a cardigan or jumper. Plus, the holes in the pattern allow air to circulate and prevent overheating (very important during peri/menopause. The traditional granny square pattern appeals to my love of 70s retro styling. This colour mix goes with so much in my wardrobe…including this orange frill blouse from The Hippie Shake. You can’t actually see the frills on the front (you can see them better in this post) but the sleeves provide enough flounce, especially with the bold crochet vest. I’ve teamed the blouse and vest with my much-worn orange trousers from Zara, yellow ankle boots and bag.

Now let’s take a look at my blogger friends’ “Craving Crochet” outfits…

Jacqui (who chose this month’s theme) bought her BooHoo crocheted dress from Vinted and styled it with white sandals and a black tote for a monochrome outfit. Head over to Mummabstylish to read more.

Hilda couldn’t wear the original crochet top she had in mind due to fracturing a finger, but luckily a friend came to the rescue with this top and bag. Hilda’s suit is newish – from a local boutique. You can find all the details at Over the Hilda.

Anna bought this Karen Millen crochet cardigan for £8 in a charity shop…what a fantastic find! She has teamed it with satin trousers and satin kitten heels, a white vest top and leather belt (another charity shop bargain at £5). Visit Anna’s Island Style to find out more.

Gail is wearing a stunning lime dress with a crochet overlay which she bought for £5 in a local charity shop! Rose gold shoes from Boden and Gucci sunglasses complete the look. Stop by Is This Mutton? to catch up with Gail.

That’s all for this month’s Style Not Age instalment, we’ll be back on the last Monday of September for another fun challenge! In the meantime, I hope you can join me for the #stylewithastyle link up tomorrow!

Oh, this gives me such 70s vibes! Love the orange, too, Emma! I tried to talk my oldest granddaughter into letting me crochet her a vest just like this, but she didn’t think that would be cool! I will have to show her this post!

I love that crochet vest. It reminds me of my childhood. But I also always loved crochet dresses. And even Haag a bikini. However that wasn’t such a good idea after a swim……

  4. Jennifer says:

This outfit is so fun! Love the crochet vest.

Love the tank/vest and its retro print. I nearly wore a tank myself, I’d ordered one from John Lewis. But then I found the dress xx
