Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great New Year’s Eve, whether you were out partying or cosy at home. We had some friends over to our house as the party we were going to was cancelled. It was a fun night, full of laughs and plenty of eating and drinking. Even though I had a few glasses of wine I didn’t have a hangover the next day, which really surprised me. I did drink several glasses of water throughout the evening though, so maybe that helped. We went for a walk in the afternoon, which perked me up too. Now it’s all over for another year and it’s time to take the decorations down and put them back up in the loft.
I always think this is a weird time of year and it’s easy to feel a bit flat. Wearing bright colours is more important to me than ever in January when spring still feels a long way away. This beautiful poppy print shirt paired with red trousers certainly lifts my mood on a dull January day! It would look equally good with jeans, but as I’ve styled a few of my other Grenouille shirts with denim I wanted to switch things up. To pick up on the navy polka dots and buttons, I chose a navy jacket and hat.
Red, white and navy is a classic colour combination – one that I’ve worn many times before on the blog. However, you know how I love to experiment with colour, and I’ve been thinking of more unconventional ways of styling this shirt. The first colour that springs to mind is a deep, golden yellow; swap the red trousers for navy ones or indigo jeans and switch this jacket for a rich yellow one. Turquoise and red is another great colour pairing – I don’t have much in that particular shade but I’m going to keep an eye open for some wide legged turquoise trousers…oh what fun I could have with them!

Happy new year Emma. I’ve heard of so many cancellations throughout Christmas! Mine was cancelled due to the virus invading our space! I tink this is a beautiful outfit. The shirt will look great with white jeans or trousers in the summer xx

Smart choice to use a cheerful color to brighten your mid-winter look. RWB is a classic combo and the poppies make for a unique detail.

Thanks very much Anna!
Emma, what a fun shirt! It is super cheerful for a dull and gray January day! I love the contrasting piping on the shirt, too. So cute. Red. white, and blue is such a wonderful combination, but I can picture this top paired with some other bright colors as well. I really like when you combine pink and red so I am wondering how it would look with pink trousers! But yellow or turquoise sound so lovely, too. And purple! I do love purple and red! Great outfit! Wishing you a very Happy New Year!
Shelbee
Thanks so much Shelbee! I’m going to experiment with trousers in different colours – I have some pale pink trousers so I’ll definitely try those! Thanks for the suggestion!
Happy New Year Emma and what a fabulous outfit to kick us off in 2022. Thank you for your hospitality throughout the year, I can only imagine how much extra time it takes and the wonderfully diverse posts you attract.

Happy New Year Emma! That blouse is such a lovely print! Such a happy print, indeed spring pops in mind. I would wear it on pink trousers or purple perhaps! But with red it looks most gorgeous I think.
