I love summertime and never want it to end, but as soon as the kids break up for the holidays I know it’ll be over in the blink of an eye. With this in mind I’m keeping an eye on the A/W trends and thinking of ways to transition my wardrobe. Opting for rich tones inspired by nature reflects the changing of the season and heralds a new phase in the sartorial calendar.
The key to transitional dressing is wearing light fabrics that can be layered. This blouse is a lovely lightweight cotton while providing plenty of coverage. I adore the exquisite bird print and mix of colours, which make it really versatile. It would look great with flared dark wash jeans and platform sandals for a 70s vibe – just add a wide brim floppy hat and a sleeveless cardigan as a topper when the temperature dips. It’s also perfect for pairing with a pencil skirt or trousers for the office. For cooler weather and air conditioned offices a navy jacket would add an extra layer and pull the look together for a smarter option. The enchanted birdies blouse and navy paperbag waist trousers are part of the Woodblock Floral end-of-summer range of smart casual daywear at Laura Ashley.
These trousers are so soft and feel lovely on. Plus they have deep pockets, which is always a bonus for me! What makes these trousers so comfortable is the loose cut and high waist, which has an elasticated section at the back. The tie belt can be adjusted – handy if you’ve had a big lunch! Having a pair of trousers in classic navy that can be dressed up or down is a real wardrobe hero.
The ankle length hem is ideal for showing off your shoes so I chose a pair of orange patent sandals. I paired them with a bright orange bag to match. The burnt orange accents give a nod to autumnal hues, but the mix of colours in the print gives you plenty of options for choosing accessories. Of course, bag and shoes don’t have to match – you could mix it up with any combination of the accent colours, or simply opt for neutrals for a pared down look. I’ve picked out several of the colours in my jewellery with a carnelian bracelet, malachite ring and turquoise earrings.
The enchanted birdies blouse is so striking and unusual that I get compliments whenever I wear it. Best of all is that I can wear it all year round with a few seasonal styling tweaks!

Thanks for hosting!! I love your outfit! I love transitioning from summer to fall – I would especially love a few cooler temperatures!
Oh Wow, Emma, this bird print is magnificent! And the color combination is brilliant! Such a great outfit to transition into fall (Is it that time already?) It feels like summer has not even started here. It has been so mild, but I am not complaining!

That top is absolutely divine, Emma! Green is my favourite colour so I was almost drooling the second I saw it lol! Love the trousers too – they’re perfect at any time of year. I can’t even consider thinking about Autumn yet as it’s super hot here in the Algarve phew!

Very pretty bird print and love the way you’ve styled it. I transition first with cashmere cardis and ponchos…then add tights! Usually I can’t wait to start wearing new styles and colours.
This outfit is fabulous in every way, Emma!! The print of the blouse, the pants!! And then that orange purse just finishes it off so nicely!!
XOXO

Lovely Emma, I’ve not even thought about Autumn yet, I too don’t want to leave summer just yet! I’ve not visited the shops for a while so not seen any of the styles trickle in, but no doubt they will be there ready and waiting for us soon enough. x

Emma,
I am already looking at Fall stuff. I seem to have a good supply of dresses for now, for summer, so I look and see what I need to add to the Fall closet. I LOVE pine green and this blouse is so pretty with the print. I am seeing the paper bag pants online everywhere and these are so flattering on you. I am really tempted for fall myself. The color combination looks great on you!
Have a lovely week!
