As the new season gets underway I’m sharing the last of my holiday outfits. I actually bought this red and purple striped co-ord from my favourite shop while I was there. When I first saw it I was unsure if it would suit me as the top is cropped and elasticated. I couldn’t resist trying it on though and to my surprise it doesn’t leave my midriff exposed. The clever design of the fabric hanging over the elasticated waist (mostly) covers any skin, helped by wearing the skirt high, which is also elasticated All this stretchiness combined with the cooling fabric makes it very comfortable. Oh, and it has pockets!
I wore my new striped co-ord for a day of mooching around towards the end of the holiday. We began the day by walking down the hill into the centre of Funchal. On the way, we discovered the Natural History Museum of Funchal and decided to go in. It’s only a few euros admission and well worth a visit. It houses more than 50,000 records of animal and botanical specimens – and many taxidermied mammals, fish and birds. But before we explored inside we took a leisurely stroll around the aromatic garden. There were some beautiful butterflies and a very friendly cat!
SHOP THE LOOK
Later in the evening we watched the first stage of the Madeira Wine Rally. It seemed very perilous to me with the cars having to pass through crowded areas – just beyond this point one had to stop for someone crossing the road! Luckily they’d only just started and hadn’t built up much speed. It certainly made me very cautious when I had to cross! On one of the subsequent stages a car actually collided with pedestrians, luckily they weren’t seriously hurt.
Well, that’s the last of the holiday outfits…who knows when I’ll next get to wear them. Hopefully I won’t have to wait until next summer. I saw my foot surgeon yesterday and it’s healing well. I’ll go back on October 1st to have the bandages removed. I will also have the wire in my fourth toe removed and then I can stop wearing the ugly sandal! I’m hoping to be running again by the end of the year. Then I’ll have to think about getting the other foot done. One step at a time, pardon the pun!
