I’ve been playing it safe with my outfits recently, so it was time to liven things up with colour and a bold pattern! I bought this retro striped trouser suit on Vinted a while ago. It’s by The Hippie Shake, one of my favourite brands. I’ve featured several outfits from them over the years, including this flower power suit, wide leg jumpsuit, paisley suit and psychedelic print co-ord.
The typical 1970s colour palette centres on warm, earthy tones of brown, orange and yellow, captured perfectly in this striped print. It reflects the turning leaves, conkers, fiery sunsets – everything autumnal. As I’m sure you know, I love all colours, but autumnal hues work best for me. The trousers are quite long, so I had to wear a chunky block heel boot with them, but that’s what people would have worn in the 70s I guess.
Although I have a yellow frilly blouse from The Hippie Shake, I chose this 70s vintage blouse that I bought on Vinted instead, mainly because I love the dagger collar. It feels like polyester and can make me feel a bit sweaty, but that’s a small price to pay for something this fabulous! It’s a tiny bit snug on the bust, and one of the pearl buttons has a tendency to pop open, so I have to wear something over it to prevent unwanted flashing! Vintage sizing is very different to that of today! I like to mix vintage with retro because it gives the outfit a more authentic feel.
I finished off the outfit with yellow woven earrings and a new chocolate brown crossbody bag* from Ollie & Nic. It also comes with a red and brown webbing strap but I chose the plain one for this look. I have this style of bag in apple green and orange too, they’re the ideal size for carrying all my essentials.
