Welcome to December’s edition of Match Made in Seven! We are an international group of fashion bloggers who meet once a month. One of us chooses a theme in turn, and that can be anything: a book, music, a color, a movie, and then we style an outfit based on that theme. This month Sonja set the theme of brown, which I think took some of us in the group by surprise!
Slap bang in the middle of the festive season we’re conditioned to think that it has to be all sequins, glitter and red. But brown is a very flattering colour, especially in luxurious textures such as velvet. I own three velvet jackets, all from charity shops. This one was the most expensive at £8 – not exactly a splurge!
When Sonja set the theme of brown it momentarily stumped me; it’s not a colour I gravitate towards in the run up to Christmas, but it’s good to get out of a rut. It also got me thinking about some of my older clothes, including this skirt. I bought it from Monsoon about 15 years ago. It’s a bit big for me now but it’s ok sitting on my hips with a jumper that’s long enough to meet it. I’ve probably had this jumper about the same amount of time. I like how the oatmeal shade picks out the embroidery on the skirt.
I’m not really one for wearing a lot of neutral shades, so I had to include some colour. The burgundy accents add warmth to the outfit and compliment the shades of brown. I had to sneak a little bit of red in there after all 😉

I also wouldn t thought of wearing those colors together! I like Brown a lot! Your blazer looks very luxureous! And the skirt is so lovely! We sold those kind a skirts in the store where I used to work!
I love the burgundy with the brown! I always like to wear brown because I think it’s a great color for me (but I actually have very little of it currently). It looks amazing on you! And I love that skirt! I believe I’d find somewhere to have it taken in a bit so I could be comfortable wearing it more. And a velvet blazer – yes please!
