Welcome to May’s Style Not Age challenge! It was Anna’s turn to choose the theme this month, which is “Recycled Fashion”. Anna has a real knack for sniffing out fabulous charity shop bargains and regularly shares her second hand treasures over on her blog. I’m rather partial to charity shop and eBay bargains myself so I had plenty of potential outfits for this challenge. But I thought this was the perfect opportunity to showcase my upcycled denim jacket. I featured it on the blog when I first customised it. However, this is its debut as part of an outfit.
A friend gave me the jacket many years ago and I’d lept it stored away in a cupboard. Just when I was about to donate it to charity I came across a magazine article about the trend for customised denim jackets. This inspired me to give it a new lease of life by adding patches to it. I bought most of the patches on eBay, and carefully selected them to reflect the things I love: fashion, Paris, cats, AC/DC and Wonder Woman among them!
I added the patches in stages – most are iron-on, but I did have to sew the edges to prevent peeling. Every time I think I’ve finished the jacket I find more patches that I want to add…it’s very much a work in progress! I plan on finishing it off with a fox and some birds.
With the jacket making quite a statement I kept the rest of the outfit black, with the exception of the red shoes and faux fur clutch. For a totally different look I plan on trying it with a Summer maxi dress and either trainers or flat sandals. By then it will probably have one or two extra patches on the back 😉

Anna is featuring a fantastic trouser suit that she picked up in a charity shop in Truro. She has teamed it with the most amazing vintage pink blouse and white ankle boots. Check out her post at Anna’s Island Style for more!
Hilda is also wearing a denim jacket which she found in a charity shop. She has paired it with a friend’s dress for a lovely Summery outfit. See all the details on her blog Over the Hilda.
Jacqui’s chic striped Summer dress was given a last minute reprieve from the charity shop pile – here she is on a recent hen’s weekend. Do stop by her blog Mummabstylish to read all about it!

Love how you CUSTOMISEd your jacket! When I was about 13 patches were all the rage and I had one seen over a RIP in my Jeans! (No-One had rips back then).
Now that’s a lovely idea to customize a denim JACKET! And that necklace is fab too, but I buy then with the UK flag for Me! Amazing clutch Too!
Thanks Emma, this is fab – sorry I didn’t give you much to play with. Great jacket and i was totally thinking of doing something similar! Whilst at the airport i spotted a gorg jacket in Desigual that was really pretty – I wondered if i could copy it. Given more time I will be trying it. Jacqui Mummabstylish

Your jacket is a brilliant work in progress Emma and it’s a lovely reflection of your passions too – what a fab idea! I’m very taken by that super necklace of yours as well, it’s very unusual x
How fun!
I have a bunch of patches scattered about. I might put them all on my Crazy Quilt and every time I snuggle under it, I can reminisce.
Thanks for linking!
That’s a great idea! Thanks for stopping by!
