I usually only wear maxi dresses and skirts in the summer – light and flowing fabrics that provide coverage while maintaining air circulation. However, they are also great for autumnal days (when it’s not windy). So when Jodie chose the theme of the Thrifty Six in Maxis, I pulled this vintage red and white polka dress out of storage. I have a few vintage maxi dresses that I bought on eBay during one of my phases! I should wear them more but I don’t really have occasion to these days.
It’s been quite warm when it hasn’t been raining, so I chose a pair of white backless shoes that cost £1 in a charity shop. They were made in Spain and are really good quality. I also bought the sparkly cocktail ring in a charity shop. The diamantes echo the small white dots on the dress. I bought the crochet bag on Vinted last year to take on holiday. Unfortunately, it’s a lot heavier than it looks, so I didn’t take it in the end. It reminds me of a bag my nan made – I think I still have it somewhere! The red and white sunglasses tie in with the simple colour scheme as well as the retro look.

“I think this was one of the first maxi dresses I bought second-hand, because I wanted to give the style a try. It was a really beautiful dress, red and pink which I think is a perfect combination. But just a little too tight. And since it was lined, it was actually far too warm. Since then, I became a fan of maxi lenght, but not on dresses. I do love maxi skirts though. They often give a bit of a boho feel and are perfect to wear on long Summer nights outside.”
“This chevron/striped maxi skirt thrifted in 2019 is the most under-utilized piece in my whole wardrobe. I find it hard to style and was actually surprised to see that it was still in my closet!
