New Blog Header and Logo Design Style Splash

How’s your weekend been? I’ve been working and I have busy week ahead, such is the life of a freelancer! I haven’t had as much time to spend blogging as I’d like lately. However, one development I’m really happy about is my new blog header and logo design! I’d been wanting to have a custom-designed header made for ages; I did consider trying to do it myself, but my graphic design skills aren’t up to scratch. So when I saw an offer in a bloggers’ Facebook group for a free design in exchange for a review I jumped at the chance!

The initial consultation

The logo designer, Karen Ngai, was great to work with and made the whole process very easy. Karen initially sent me some questions to get an idea of what my blog is about. These centred around my brand motto, whether I wanted the logo to be colourful or minimalistic, and if I wanted a specific element featured in the design. I have to admit that I was rather vague, which I imagine can be either a blessing or a curse for a designer! The only direction I gave Karen was to use an easy to read font and nothing too fussy. I wanted my logo to convey confidence and style but couldn’t be more specific than that.

Karen very quickly came back to me with a research and mood board with two ideas. For the first one she took inspiration from my personal style and hair colour. This would include a graphic version of me and embody the spirit of my tagline ‘Style Has No Age Limit’.

The second concept focused on the word ‘Splash’, using modern, minimalist paint splashes to symbolise the prints that I like to wear and my style. I really loved both ideas, but as you can see, I ultimately chose the first theme.

The design process

From there, Karen worked on the main logo and two variations. After seeing the first draft I requested a few tweaks, such as changing the font and positioning of the text. Before finalising the design I also asked Karen to move the graphic ‘me’ from the E to the A, as I thought it fitted the letter shape better. Although I don’t like being picky I figured as I’d waited this long to get a custom-designed logo I should make sure it was exactly what I wanted! Karen was brilliant and made the changes very promptly, keeping me informed at every stage.

When I was happy with the final versions, Karen sent me a ZIP file with the main logo and two variations. These are flexible and can be altered in the future with minor edits for the very reasonable fee of £20. For the complete design process, Karen usually charges £100, which I think is great value, especially considering the amount of changes I requested. If you’re looking for a custom-designed header and logo I would definitely recommend Karen; I really couldn’t be happier with the design process and end product. Now I need to get some more business cards with my new logo on!

Do you like the new blog header and logo design? What colours/themes would you choose for yours (if you don’t already have one)?

Karen’s Bio

Hi there! My name is Karen and I am a digital marketer by day, lifestyle blogger and graphic designer by night. I started blogging a while back and during this process a lot of people showed interest in my graphic design skills. I had the opportunity to help a few bloggers and small businesses all around the world design their logos. This was when I decided to start a sub-brand, Klassic Studio, embracing my creative skills to help others develop their unique tone of voice. While I am focusing more on logos at the moment, I am looking forward to branching out to different aspects and help create more pretty brands!
