At about this time of year I start to feel a little jaded, everything feels a bit stagnant. The height of Summer has passed but Autumn is still a few weeks away. It’s a kind of limbo, but I don’t want to wish the dying days of Summer away. This time next year Isobel will be preparing for high school, and frankly that’s just a little bit alarming. So I want to make the most of the school holidays, even when she’s using up my contact lens solution to make yet more slime! (I really don’t get why kids are so obsessed with the stuff).
Even though I feel a bit short on motivation and inspiration, putting outfits together almost always gets me out of a funk. And wearing bright colours is guaranteed to make me feel cheerier…especially when it involves a charity shop bargain or two! This yellow tweed preloved jacket and blue frill trousers capture the colours of Summer, but won’t look out of place in early Autumn. I’ve featured the trousers on the blog a couple of times before with a mustard top and pink graphic t-shirt. Bright blue is surprisingly versatile, but pairing it with yellow is probably my favourite combination.
I bought the jacket from a charity shop for £6…quite a bargain don’t you think? It’s from Marks and Spencer so it’s really good quality. It’s a perfect match for this Second Female blouse I bought in the Atterley sale last month. The jacket isn’t the only preloved bargain because I found these Quay sunglasses in a charity shop for just £2! I did wonder if I could justify buying another pair of sunnies, but for that price I couldn’t resist.
My Carvela jewel strap shoes mirror the blue and yellow in the rest of the outfit. You may have seen the trend for bags with clear sections lately. Well this bag was a gift from my Dad and step mother. They bought it in Madeira, where they are obviously very fashion forward…I’ll be able to find out for myself in October 🙂 There’s a yellow pouch inside so you don’t have to display the contents of your bag to the world. Just as well really, given the mess of tissues and receipts that’s usually inside mine!

Thanks Kathrine!
Love this bold color mix, Emma! Your tweed jacket is simply perfect.
Thanks Jennie!
Yellow and blue is such a lovely combo. You are the queen of accessorising – I love how your sensational shoes, bag and earrings highlight the colour scheme.
Thanks so much Gail!
This is so pretty on you! I love the butter yellow color and the jacket. The jewels on the shoes and the ruffles on the pants are the coolest detail. Yes, this is a tough time when I start to get excited about Fall, but it is going to be hot here for a few months.

Thanks Jess! I find late Summer tricky to dress for – I’m either too hot or too cold!
I love how you mix vibrant colours together Emma. Another fabulous look xx
Thanks Laurie!
You have a gift for finding the perfect pieces and putting them together in an outfit! Those shoes were meant to be worn with the rest of these items! Such a deal on your sunglasses and blazer!
Thanks so much Laura!
Emma, that is the perfect transitional outfit! Love the yellow and blue color combo. I agree, it’s that time of year when we’re sort of in a holding pattern–and wish it would stay summer forever! Enjoy every minute with your daughter; my son is 27 and I can still remember thinking about him going to high school! Time flies!
xx Darlene
Thanks Darlene! They grow up so fast don’t they? Isobel’s such a lovely girl – I just hope the teenage years aren’t too troublesome!
I just adore this jacket! I love the tweed detail and pretty color!

It’s funny that people are weary of summer at this point—it’s just getting started in San Francisco! I’m ready to break out my sundresses now 😉
Cheryl Shops | http://www.cherylshops.net
I need to get to San Francisco then! I love Summer, but the weather in August is hit and miss in the UK. September is usually drier and more settled.
Ah that yellow tweed is so cute! That purse is also so chic and I love the clear trend!

I need to shop in charity shops in stead of antique shops! What a fantastic jacket! Have you got tips for what kind of charity shops you can shop the best!
Thanks Nancy! I was really pleased to find this jacket for such a great price. Shopping in charity shops is very hit and miss – sometimes I don’t find anything and other times I strike lucky and find several pieces. I don’t know what it’s like in the Netherlands, but we do have a lot in the UK. I prefer the ones that are set out nicely because it’s easier to see everything. Jackets are my best buy because you can try them on in the shop without using the changing room. I don’t think I’ve ever bought trousers in a charity shop.
I’ve always loved how yellow and blue looks together! This is such a wonderful look.

Thank you 🙂
Sorry to be late to the party – how rude of me! Nice to see me featured here though, what a lovely surprise first thing in the morning. This outfit is adorable Emma, love everything about it. I wore my yellow trousers yesterday, they have similar detail on the hem, maybe will try pairing with blue next time. Jacqui Mummabstylish
Thanks Jacqui! You’re very welcome 🙂
You are so pulled together and not afraid of bold colors! This outfit is classic but you made it your own by using bold colors. You inspired me. I have to copy this color combo sometime!
This week’s link up is live. I hope to see you there.
