Breton stripes are a wardrobe staple of mine, so where better to embrace the nautical chic look than an evening out in Brittany? This was the last night of our holiday so we ended it in style by going for a meal by the sea…just the two of us thanks to Grandad entertaining the little one. The restaurant we chose is very close to where we went for my Birthday Meal in St-Quay-Portrieux. I didn’t take any skirts or dresses with me so that narrowed down the outfit choices to jeans or trousers. On a typical beach holiday where I’m either by the pool or lounging by the sea all day I take mostly skirts and dresses, but Brittany isn’t really like that, at least in my experience, so I feel more comfortable in trousers or shorts.
I toyed with the idea of wearing jeans again but I’d packed these Asos culottes at the last minute and didn’t want to take them home unworn – my aim is to wear at least 80% of the clothes and shoes I pack when I go away. I applied the same logic to footwear: I could have worn my Stan Smiths with this outfit but I wanted a change from trainers and flip flops, and these gold espadrilles are very comfortable. My only gripe with the culottes is that they crease very easily and they are a nightmare to iron, at least if you’re like me and hate ironing (and are also very bad at it). While they score highly on the comfort level they are not the best to take on holiday.
We’d been very lucky with the weather but I knew as soon as the sun went down it was going to feel cool…which is why I took my beautiful grey cashmere poncho from Hope with me. You may remember when I went to the 3040 Blogger Meet in May we were all given a stunning pink poncho (I’m sure those of you who were there can’t forget!) and then I only went and won another one in the raflle! I was extremely grateful for my poncho that evening, snuggling underneath it against the cool evening breeze. I don’t think any holiday wardrobe should be without one of these!
Top: Monsoon (I love the ruffled bib on this one but this is a real bargain, I love this boat neck top too) | culottes: Asos (similar here) espadrilles: Clarks (similar)| bag: TK Maxx (old) save or splurge | bracelets: Pia (I love this red leather strap bracelet) | sunglasses : Karl Lagerfeld (I love these angular cat eye shades).

A perfect summer look. So funny how culottes are cool again when I would have never been caught dead in them in middle school!

Thanks Catherine! I know exactly what you mean – sometimes I see a new trend and think no way will I be trying that…only to succumb a few months later. Fashion is a fickle creature!
Gorgeous backdrop for your photos! Love this nautical look!
