A Classic White Shirt With a Twist + Style With a Smile Link Up

If you’ve been following me for a while you may know that I very rarely wear white. The main reason for that is my tendency to get anything white dirty within five minutes – makeup, tea and food being the main culprits. (I have a colleague who wears her coat back to front while she eats her lunch to protect her outfit from spillages…clever trick, don’t you think?) However, I do think a classic white shirt is a really useful item to have in your wardrobe, especially for layering. Knitted vests and tank tops are on trend right now and they look great over a long sleeved shirt. That’s my next styling idea for this recent addition to my wardrobe. For its debut I wanted to show this classic white shirt with a twist in all its glory; the twist being the fabulous frill bib detail that really elevates it.

White teamed with blues and greens looks really fresh and spring-like so I went for a simple two-colour combination. I like the contrast of the pure white against the vibrant emerald green, it reminds me of a snowdrop. The shirt is slightly fitted and the fabric has some stretch; it’s fantastic quality, as all Grenouille shirts are. My white boots and bag give the look a slight retro touch (the frills on the shirt are not quite of Austin Powers proportions though!).

Of course, at this time of year a coat or jacket is needed, so I kept the look tonal with a dark green velvet jacket that I picked up in a charity shop recently. It doesn’t have any fastenings so it doesn’t cover up the details on the shirt. I think a navy jacket would work well too, but for a bolder choice I would try turquoise or yellow. I have a yellow tweed jacket that could work with this shirt and trousers. Imagining different ways to wear clothes is a constant source of entertainment for me!

Emma, I adore a white shirt with detailing such as yours. Your green and white ensemble is fabulous. And while there may be a few extra precautions one must take when wearing white, I think that the effort is worth it.

I love all the green in this outfit! I really like kelly green but somehow don’t own any of it myself yet. I am going thrifting tomorrow in search of a 70s outfit to wear to an Abba disco, so maybe I’ll find something green too!

  3. Such a great neutral hue that goes with everything. I love how you paired it with the green. White has such a crisp and new look that it’s just beautiful to wear.

It looks very fresh especially on that gorgeous green. And when I do wear white, I think it looks good and it is actually totally not my colour. That’s the weird thing about white.

Love this fresh, bright green and white color combination! Your white blouse with the bib ruffle is so sweet and versatile, and will be a great layering piece. Cutest white vintage bag, too. Thanks for the link up and have a good week!

Such a fresh look, Emma! The velvet jacket is just gorgeous with this outfit. While, I am also concerned with getting white clothing dirty, I don’t think it’s a great color on me, so I don’t tend to wear white tops. I do like white jeans though.

  16. Ooh, Emma, I love this shade of green and it really does look great with stark white. I do love a crisp white blouse with some ruffles or some other interesting twist. Your velvet jacket is fabulous, too. That is a thrifty find that would make me so happy! Great look! And I also am greatly entertained imagining different ways to wear things!

  19. Emma, this look is beautiful! I love the ruffles on the white shirt and that it is a bit fitted. This would be something I would go for. I will wear a fair amount of white in the summer, ( but not when drinking wine). The combination with the green trousers and the jacket looks so good with your hair color too. Cute idea about wearing the coat backwards to avoid stains!

  20. Hi
Thank you for the nice comment on my blog, I hope you can learn Portuguese as you wish! Madeira Island has a different pronunciation than mainland Portuguese! As for your look, I love white and it’s perhaps the color I like to wear the most, of course all its purity has this drawback of easily getting dirty! Green is a trending color this season, it’s very pretty!

  22. I love the bold colors paired with the white top, great idea. I actually wanted the pink Zara trousers but they were sold out in store when I went the other day, I love how they look.
