I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! We’re now in that weird period of limbo where it could be any day of the week and all routine has gone out the window. At least we now know that there won’t be any further restrictions introduced in England this year, so we can plan to celebrate the New Year with friends. We’ve been invited to a small gathering at our friends’ house nearby. Although I will dress up a bit I won’t be wearing heels because we’ll be walking there and back. The New Year’s Eve outfit I put together for this month’s Thrifty Six theme would be more appropriate for a casual get together: warm, comfortable and sparkly!
However, if we were going to a more formal party this dress would definitely be in the running. You can’t go wrong with an LBD for NYE! Of course, you don’t have to go for all out glamour with a black dress; a simple lurex knit dress with tights and boots (like this one I wore for NYE a few years ago) is a less formal option while still being suitably dressy. A shirt dress would be another good alternative. Although I don’t wear black much these days, it does make getting ready much easier than the usual colourfest I typically go for. You can use it as a blank canvas (or should that be black canvas?) and really go to town with accessories. I’ve chosen silver accents for this outfit, but any metallic hue would work equally as well. If like me, you don’t wear black much, adding texture to an outfit – such as lace, faux leather, satin or velvet – can make it more interesting and compensate for a lack of colour.
