A clean silhouette is always a fail-safe look for any occasion. However, it doesn’t have to be boring or bland; far from it – it’s the details that make the outfit. This black Kaliko polka dot crossover top and Mary Portas pencil skirt have plenty of interesting details to elevate them beyond basic. The navy centre panel of the skirt has a faux snake skin strip down the front which helps to elongate the legs. Plus, the full length zip at the back of the skirt really ups the glam factor.
It’s the first item from the Mary Portas & House of Fraser range I’ve purchased. When the collection first launched my initial reaction was that it was a little over priced. I bought this skirt in the sale, and although I wouldn’t have paid full price for it I am really pleased with the quality. The material is a thick jersey which creates a nice silhouette. The black cross over top from Kaliko is really good quality and fits snuggly, without being constrictive thanks to the slight stretch in the fabric.
These vintage shoes were my mum’s – she bought them in the ’80’s. They’ve certainly lasted well…although I did lose a rubber heel tip as soon as I got out of the car. I had to dash out in my lunch break to get them repaired!
I bought the bag from Secret Sales – I’ve found so many amazing bargains there!
