I’ve been trying to rein in my spending on clothes lately, especially new clothes. However, I couldn’t resist this bright yellow cord skirt that I found in C&A in Madeira. C&A disappeared from UK high streets years ago, but I remember buying clothes from there as a teenager. I had a pinstripe skirt suit from C&A that I loved and wore lots…in fact it might still be at my mum’s somewhere.
I’m mixing new with very old in this outfit; I’ve had the chocolate brown boots and jumper for over 10 years. At the time I thought the boots were expensive, but considering the amount of wear I’ve had from them they were worth every penny. That said, I don’t find them very comfortable now due to the state of my feet. They just don’t have enough cushioning.
Wearing bright colours in Winter really helps to lift my mood, and for me yellow is the happiest of colours. I guess it’s the associations of sunshine and flowers. I’ve worn this skirt with black, but it pairs really well with brown too for a softer colour combination. The only downside to cord skirts is they cling to tights…a nice slinky lining wouldn’t go amiss!
To finish off the outfit I added a gold tone ring, necklace and earrings, plus a wooden bracelet. I thought a brown bag would have been too match-matchy so I chose my tan and leopard print crossbody bag from Scottage. Actually, the only dark brown bag I own is really old and has a broken buckle…maybe I need to ask Santa for a new one!

That skirt is fabulous! I feel the same way you do about yellow – it’s so cheerful and happy. The brown works very well it, and you nailed it with the leopard print purse.

I often hear of people getting outfits from C&A Why can’t we have one? Great look Emma xx
Thanks Laurie! It’s a shame it disappeared, a bit like Woolworths.
This is a beautiful look! I love the mustard tone it goes perfectly with the fall outfit. 🙂

Very nice look Emma, love the bright cheery skirt. Thanks for hosting the #linkup Jacqui x
Thanks Jacqui!
I can remember when I was 6 that my grandmother took me to c&a and bought me a lilac skirt with a purple lacquer belt. A Corduroy skirt should only look like yours! That’s the way they have to look like! Love it.
Thanks Nancy! That sounds like a great skirt…those childhood shopping trips stick in our memories don’t they? Getting new clothes was a real treat!
Beautiful look! I just love that yellow cord skirt! Now you’ve got me thinking about an olive green cord skirt I haven’t pulled out in years and my head is whirling with what I can do with that! I really do love that yellow, though…. And it’s perfect with the brown – definitely softer than going with black – a little less contrast. And that leopard bag is so cute – just right for it!
Thank you so much for hosting the linkup – I joined!

I was also trying to rein in my shopping, but then Black Friday happened 😉 Love the bright yellow color of your skirt—worth cheating for!

Thanks Cheryl! Black Friday really tests your resolve doesn’t it? I did buy a few things, but mainly Christmas presents and things I was going to buy anyway.
C&A! Remember it well, such a pity they moved out of the UK. I love the skirt Emma, exactly what I am looking for! I sent a yellow skirt back a few months ago and have regretted it ever since.
Thanks Gail! Jacynth was stocking one similar at the Bias Cut – I don’t know if it’s still in stock. This one wasn’t expensive…about 20 Euros, maybe 25.
Love the colour of your skirt!

Thanks Jennifer!
Love the color of your new skirt! I love the button down the front style and that you chose to pair it with brown. I wear more browns than black too! Your cute leopard bag goes perfectly! I need to cool it with clothes too throughout Jan– its wearing what you have and willpower! :-))
Have a great day!

Thanks Jess! I find I’m wanting to wear browns more and black less lately, I think it’s better with my complexion. Black can be draining, especially at this time of year.
I love this color combo, Emma. I agree that the brown with the mustand does give it a whole softer look!
And here I am a day behind–once again–and saw that you featured my photo! Thanks so much!!
xx Darlene
Thanks Darlene! I’m constantly at least a day behind with everything…it’s my default setting lately!
I love this skirt and how you have styled it. I scored an Italian cream cord skirt yesterday in the charity shop (in perfect condition for 50 euro cents!)and also cannot wait to style it with my brown boots. Hope I don’t get the cling thing. Lise
That is such a cute corduroy skirt!
I just adore that skirt Emma. Yellow is such a forgotten color in the winter, yet I think we should wear it more.
XOXO
Jodie
Hi Emma, I don’t how I missed this post! Thanks so much for the feature! What an honor. And this yellow corduroy skirt is so cute. I just bought 3 new corduroy skirts (because I didn’t have any) but I did get them all second hand. I have been trying not to buy new clothes myself lately. I love this combination of brown and yellow. It is really pretty!
